How do I find a university focusing on modern architecture? I am currently in high school and plan on studying architecture, but I am not sure what school to go to. I want to find a school that focuses on modern sustainable architecture. Does anyone know of a university that does?

Can I be an architect if I think modern architecture is hideous? I cannot abide the modern style of architecture that is around at the moment, where the building look like a larger version of something a five year old would make. However, I adore more classic architecture, all stone or dark wood, with sweeping staircases and high ceilings and tall windows. I would love to one day be able to design houses like this, and bring back the style. Is this something that would hinder me in becoming/studying to be an architect? (Or could it help me, because I'm not into what seems to be the usual style?)

Despite the zeal of most Architects to promote modern architecture for the last 80 years it is clear that most people do not accept it and instead cling to traditional forms of building. If one looks at residential construction in the US I would say that over 99% of new houses can be classified as traditional.

What do you think about my rebuttal on post-war modern architecture? The rebuttal states that the old buildings are not as efficient as the new ones and loses some of its power. I feel that the historic buildings are for sure not as efficient but are rare and can be turned to low cost and low energy. These buildings are part of the beautiful and part of our culture and are here to stay.

What do you think of the standard of modern architecture in the UK (last 20 years)? Thinking of all new builds, houses, shops, business parks etc rather than just the big high profile buldings.
How would you rate modern society's architecture in comparison to other civilizations? Or another way to put it is: How does our society compare to other ancient civilizations of the past? For example when I think of this society I think that it looks very ghetto...maybe in exclusive rich neighborhoods it can look cool, but once you venture out to go to the drug store or something you see the streets aren't so nice looking, graffiti, ect.. Modern Residential Architecture...What is your opinion? Do urban planners have no flare anymore like the Victorians did? Why are most new build developments a labyrinth of dull flimsy looking clones. I don't mean the master pieces of Richard Rogers etc but the ghastly modern estates mushrooming up all over the country. Will people look back in 100 years time and cringe at this period of design with the same contempt as they do now at the horrid 60's high rise apartment blocks ? Why can't we build magnificent solid white pillared terraced mansions anymore with a modern twist. Is creative brickwork, tall ceilings a thing of the past? Surely it cannot always be down to cost and being green ?
