How hard is Landscape Architecture? As in Landscape Architecture school. UofO specifically. is it a hard major with lots of maths and science or would an artistic person do well?
When should I expect acceptance or denial to Cal Poly schools for Landscape Architecture? I applied to Cal Poly SLO and Pomona for Landscape Architecture at the beginning/end of October (respectively). Is it normal for it to take this long (it is Jan. 23rd)? I know my major is competitive, but I am a transfer student with a 3.5 GPA and previous work experience in my major. Any ideas? I applied to Cal Poly SLO and Pomona for Landscape Architecture at the beginning/end of October (respectively). I haven't heard from either one and my online application status says it is still under review. Is it normal for it to take this long (it is Jan. 23rd)? I know my major is competitive, but I am a transfer student with a 3.5 GPA and previous work experience in my major. Any ideas? *so not hearing an immediate denial is a good sign?
Who has a better Landscape Architecture program? Who has a better Landscape Architecture program: Oklahoma University (Norman, OK) or Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK)? Anyone that either goes to one of these schools or knows about landscape architecture please let me know. Thanks in advance!

What are the best Landscape Architecture universities in California and in Philadelphia? I'm a high school senior who has decided to choose Landscape Architecture as my intended major. I was curious as to what which schools in California, and in Philadelphia, had good Landscape Architecture programs. **When you do decide to answer my question, please go into specifics by supporting your opinion.** Oh! And what classes would you recommend I take/look into in order to prepare myself for any Landscape Architecture program? Thank you!
What is good online school to start a landscape architecture degree? I am working full-time during the day with a landscaping company, therefore I need to either do night classes or online classes. I realize eventually i will need to hands on learning, but for now I know I need just my core classes, so I need to know what kind of online school is good to start at and have my credits transfer to a good landscap architechture school. I am in Washington state but will be moving to VA in about 2 years.
Top Architecture Schools? I was looking for a good reference to some top architecture schools. I live in Canada, but considering Canada has maybe 15 total, I am not worried about staying in my country. I am not interested in landscape architecture, though.
Landscape and Regular Architecture? Is there any difference between going to school for landscape architecture and regular architecture? Do you learn basically the same things, and still have to take those exams to be a qualified professional?
Is landscape architecture a good choice of career ? I am a senior in high school and I just wanted to know if landscape architecture is a good career choice........ and if I can study Environmental science along with it..... which are the best colleges in USA, Netherlands and UK......... how is the salary ??.........and scope as well.........
Do you have to be a great artist to get a Masters of Landscape Architecture? I am going to be graduating with a Bachelors degree (geography) at the end of the year and I am interested in pursuing a M.L.A. Although I have no design experience, I feel that I have the drive, and creativity to succeed in the field. My problem is that I can not draw. I've never had to draw in my undergraduate classes. Will this hinder me? Also many schools ask for a portfolio with your application, and since my degree is in geography, I have nothing that could go in a portfolio of work. Could anyone clear these things up for me? PS: I can make a mean model, just dont ask me to draw anything.
Changin my major from Business Administration to Landscape Architecture? Ok I am currently at a four year private school and I am a junior. I am a business administration major but I have ALWAYS wanted to be a landscape architect and I am transferring schools so I can be closer to home. However, I am going stick with business administration and I plan on getting my bachelors in it in spring 2009. Here is my situation, I have heard that I could go to graduate school for "Master of Landscape Architecure" and get my masters in that, therefore I get a that nice combo. I have been advised that it is sort of late to try to get my bachelors now in Landscape architecture because I would spend another entire academic year just doing the pre-reqs to get into the program which is going to hold me back longer. What do you guys think? What should I do? Is it a good idea to just get my bachelors in business then master in landscape architecture? please give me any ideas/advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot!
This is for anyone who works in the field of "landscape architecture"? i am interested in environmental architectural design, but i was wondering about landscape architecture what are your main responsibilities? what kind of training and education do you need (i am getting my bachelors in a completely different subject so what would graduate school be like, years etc) do you get to design green buildings or just park-like public spaces? what are your responsibilities when you start out, where do you work? do you need a strong math background? what kind of math is essential? thank you
Landscape architecture question? Hey all! I'm considering pursuing a Master's degree in Landscape architecture (my BS is in Communication). I took a couple of architecture courses in high school and loved it save for the math involved. It's for that reason that I didn't work on a Bachelor's degree in architecture in the first place. I love drawing, writing, and gardening, so in most respects this would be an excellent career choice for me (I think). Did any architects out there (landscape or otherwise) struggle with arithmetic in school? Does it hinder you in anyway in your career, or did you overcome your struggles? How do you enjoy your work presently? Thanks!
Landscape Architecture: UC Davis vs Cal Poly SLO? I am a graduating high school senior who has been accepted into Cal Poly SLO and I have a good chance of getting into UC Davis. I am curious as to what the difference is between UC Davis and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, in regards to their Landscape Architecture programs. What can each school offer? Are there any special benefits from any of them?
can you study architecture in grad school? im currently majoring in landscape architecture (=basically designing outdoor spaces) but ive always wanted to be an architect. is it possible to start studying architecture or do you really need to have a bachelor's degree in architecture before grad school? or what are some undergrad majors that have an advantage of going to architecture grad school?
What are the best schools to attend for interior design? I plan on going for my Bachelor's, and am entering my junior year of high school this year. I have about a 3.8 GPA, all honors classes and such. I'm looking particularly for schools in New York and California. I'm also looking to minor possibly in landscape architecture.
At this point, how do I get started with a career in architecture? I'm a Junior at UC Davis majoring in Biological Sciences, but what I really want to do is architecture. I learned that the landscape architecture program requires too many number of units that I can't surpass. I also don't know if I can transfer schools at this point. What do i do? Most transfers are only accepted at the Junior level, which I am about to begin.
Architecture schools? What are some colleges and universities in the US known for a strong undergraduate program in architecture? Or a program known to lead to eventual success as a landscape/building architect? I'm not looking to apply or anything, I just need names of some well-known prestigious schools in the field (Public and Private schools welcome) Thanks a bundle!
landscape architecture Question ?? ? I hear that you need a science subject in school to do a course in landscape architecture , if so can you tell me what to do as i dont have a science subject , tell me GOOD COLLAGES OR UNIS that i could go to im from ireland - ill go to uk if its there
bacherlor's in landscape architecture, and a master's in architecture? im doing landscape architecture as my bachelor's degree, i absolutely love it, but i also like architecture. I've had the option of switching my major to plain archhitecture, but i dont want to, i like lansdcape arch, and the work load is so much more simple to deal with. recently a friend of mine told me it was possible to get a B.S. in Landscape Arch and later do grad school and get a Master's in architecture. Is this possible? IM really confused, but thins really sounds like something i would want to do. if it is possible, after graduation, what would i be considered? a landscape architect, an architect or both?
What's the best college to study Architecture near the Bay Area? I live in San Francisco and I'm going to go to a community college first to transfer credits to a better college. But what college is the best one for architecture near the bay area? I first though it would be Academy Of Arts in SF because the idea of teacher who currently still work in the "Business" seemed very appealing. But the down side is that school tuition is ridiculous. So which school is the best to study simply Architecture. Not Interior Architecture or Landscape Architecture.
landscape architecture QUESTION >>?? i hear that you need a science subject in school to do a course in landscape architecture , if so can you tell me what to do as i dont have a science subject , tell me GOOD COLLAGES OR UNIS that i could go to im from ireland - ill go to uk if its there
i was considering going to grad school next year for architecture or landscape architecture? however my bachelors is in another subject (political science) and i didnt do well in math at all this being said, what are my options, should i even apply next year if i am lacking math? what do i need to do before i can go to grad school for this? thanks also, what kind of GPA are they looking for? also, i have heard that you need calculus 1 and 2, can i pick that up in graduate school or will i have already had to have passed this? in other words, should i take some sort of summer program before hand in calculus before heading off to school? thanks
B.S. in Landscape Architecture and a Master's in??what? IM getting my bacherlor's degree in landscape architecture and i want to go to grad school, but for a differnet field of study. I speak french and i was thinking of doing a master's in french with an option for teaching at a university maybe [how does that work] what are the best degrees that go well together with landscape architecture or architecture in general? a professor advised me to do law or business, since this would be extremely useful in my future career as a landscape architect, but both options seem boring to me. then i thought about history, or latin american studies, but those [as fun as they sound to me] would not be very helpful with landarch what do you recomend?
How important is grad school quality in getting hired as a landscape architect? I'm planning to go to grad school to get my Masters in Landscape Architecture. The only schools I'm considering are Temple and the University of Pennsylvania because I want to stay in Philadelphia. I could probably get into both schools, but I have a dilemma: Temple is much cheaper, and I could start this fall because it has late application deadlines. However, the program is only in the process of getting accredited and is very new. (It would be accredited by the time I graduate.) UPenn is obviously a very prestigious school, but it's more expensive, and I have already missed the deadlines to apply for this fall. The thought of spending another year in my current soul-crushing job is almost unbearable. Would I be hurting my chances of finding employment after I graduate by choosing the less-prestigious school because it's more convenient, or are employers only interested that you graduate from an accredited program? Any insight is appreciated but especially that that is specific to landscape architecture. Thanks!
Is landscape architecture more than designing gardens? I am 21, and I just quit law school because I hated it. I have always had an interest in architecture, not so much landscape architecture though (mainly caused by lack of knowledge in what they do beyond designing gardens). I am however, very interested in skateboarding and snowboarding and am wondering if the scope of the profession extends into designing plazas and ski field terrain. Currently my situation would make it easy to get a well recognised postgraduate degree in landscape architecture in 2 years, and from what I can tell the job market looks better than that of regular architecture. My plan is to work in this area for a while as closely to my stated interest areas as possible, then later do an M.ARCH I and become an architect (when I have the money to do this overseas, and when the architect job market is looking better.) I guess I have two questions: What is the scope of the profession? and; Is it going to be viable to move into regular architecture in the way I have just stated?
cal poly san luis obispo or uc davis landscape architecture? i need major help in decidng where to transfer to for college. i'm going for lanscape architecture and i know cal poly seem to be the best chose and it is well known name but davis is also not bad. So both school are great but i am wondering how the living style would be like and the cost of living. for example renting a apartment. and jobs avali. I also got a silly question to ask. i was thinking of quiting school for one year before transfer so i can work and save money. so i won't be stress out when i`m in school. because i know that cal poly lanscape arch. has a program if you drop or fail a course it can take up to another year to continue... any sugguest. it will be great help if those who are FASA student can tell me how much you receive in these school and how living sytle like thanks you so much for your time.
What colleges have good landscape design programs? I am now a Senior in high school and have become somewhat interested in landscape design/architecture. However, I can't find any college degree programs that fit this job title. I am trying to stay in the northwest, specifically Washington or Oregon. Could someone please help me or let me know of any that are out there? Thanks.
Landscape Architecture without math skills? I am positive I want to be a Landscape Architect; however, I have only average math skills. I excel in Art class and know I am capable of the drawing aspect, but if I am getting C+ and B- grades in high school math, will I be able to pass the math requirements for a BLA degree? I think that my desire to become a LA would help me buckle down and focus on the math courses. Lastly, I am thinking about getting a Bachelors degree in Urban and Regional Planning, then getting a three year Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, as opposed to the five year BLA. I know Planners and LA's usually work together, but I like the idea of having two separate degrees. Sorry for how long this is. Any help from a LA or LA student or an Urban Planner would be appreciated. Or anybody who know's anything about the field. Oh wait, I'm not done. I have researched this question so giving me websites probably wouldn't be helpful, since I have probably been there before.
Career change: Interior Design vs Landscape Architecture? I am considering a career change and going to graduate school in order to makie the transition. I am passionate about design and gardening and am trying to decide which would be a better career. I think interior design may be more fun in that much more time would be spent on "design." However, I worry about job prospects. Just a simple google search shows there are no jobs out there. However, the graduate program does include an internship so that might be a good opportunity. Landscape architecture would be much less creative but the job market is great. Besides, I am obsessed with plants! What to do???? Thanks!!!
Is a masters in landscape architecture worth it? I graduated with my bachelors degree in landscape architecture in May. I have had no luck so far with my job search. I am considering going for my masters degree next fall since it is still early enough to apply. However, the school I really want to go to does not offer scholarships/grants to grad students. Also, any federal aid would be in the form of loans. I would need 44 total credits for the masters totaling around $33,000. I just paid off all of my undergraduate loans so I will not be going into it with any debt. What I am hoping is that by the time I am done there will be more jobs than now & my masters will put me at an advantage over those graduating with their bachelors at the same time. Does this sound like it would be worth it? I really want to stay involved with the field as opposed to working unrelated jobs then having recent grads be selected for work when it does come.
Architecture. how well do you know it.? What do you think is the best? rate them from best to worst if you can. Im looking to go to one of the following schools for a bachelors in landscape architecture/ architecture. 1) THE ART INSTITUTE 2)New School of Architecture and Design (san diego) 3)OTIS 4) Southern California Insititute of Architecture 5) Woodbury 6) Sci- Arc RATE THEM PLEASE i need to choose one to go. the best out of these preferably.
Should i switch schools? Ok, so this year I'm at this new school. I transferred there because my old school was bad and i could not see myself really learning anything. I'm in the 8th grade. My current school is AMAZING!!! the food is made right then and there so it's fresh. The teachers are very understanding and you learn from them well. The kids here are very accepting and so on. I even made the closest friends i could ever have here :).(P.s~ it's a art school) Now here's my dilemma. In the future, I could see myself doing either-- architecture, landscape architecture, or web design. I'm not completely sure which one, but I know it's one of these or related to these. And the thing is, I'm very serious about my future so I want to do everything possible to make sure I get to it(ex: going to the right college, getting the right degree, doing research, etc). And I'm wondering, to get where i want to be in life should I switch to the school down the street? Across the street, is another art school that's for Design and Architecture and they especially teach what I could see myself doing in the future. The main difference between this my current school and this school is not only they teach design & architecture(my school teach basic art like: art, music, dance, theatre, etc) but what they're known for. The other school is one of the best schools out there. They won the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. It's been in numerous magazines. 95% of the students there go to college(especially schools like yale and harvard and so on) and it's been listed as one of the top 5 best public highschools in THE UNITED STATES. That's really saying something!! And the communtiy gives the school incredible respect by letting the architecture kids design a bridge or having the fashion students enter in a serious fashion show that's public or something. :P Now the other school sounds really amazing and such but the thing is... I don't really see a problem with the school I'm at now. The only reason I'm considering transferring is because, if I go to the other school I KNOW I'll be able to reach my career with their help. But then again i pretty much live by "don't try to fix something, that isn't broken''. I don't know what to do! I'm pretty torn between schools. And also sorry for the question and thanks for anyone who actually read it. I just don't want to regret my decision.... @Sean Trust me they are definitely recognized by colleges and teach other subjects besides art(they especially have AP). more than HALF of the students there are handed scholarships to them by art colleges and other famous colleges(ringling, university of Pennsylvania, Yale, etc). this school wouldn't be one of the best in the country for no reason! But it only makes the decision harder...
Is Architecture the right career path for me? I’m going into my senior year of high school and have had my mind set on going into Architecture, literally, since Elementary. My parents noticed that I had an eye for designing and building things such as houses and buildings since I was a toddler. I have been involved in architecture organizations, related classes, and met with people in the profession, etc, and love everything about it. After meeting with the director at an Architecture school for several hours, I now question whether it is really what I want to pursue or not because there are so many other aspects of design that I like. By talking to her I realized I not only loved designing the buildings themselves, but I also have a passion for what surrounds it, such as streets, boulevards, and how they are planned out, and what makes that area look nice, etc. I pay much attention to what areas look like and how they are planned, and she took that as me maybe being more interested in Landscape Architecture, which I do not think I would enjoy at all, but also Urban Planning, which I have thought about doing before. I enjoy learning about the demographics in areas and trends and what areas are lacking and what aspects they are good in. My goal was to become an Architect/Developer someday because it gives me the best of both worlds, I think. I also have had somewhat of an interest in Marketing which is completely in a different ballpark. Does it sound like I’m on the right track? Are there other professions that I might want to look into? I’m overwhelmed because for once in my life, I’m unsure about this.
What highschool courses should i choose if i want to go into Landscape design/architecture? So currently i am in grade 11 and i have no idea what courses i should take so i did a little bit of research last year and asked a few people and i took this Math - (required gr 11 course) Biology Chemistry English Photography Geography Religion - (required in catholic schools) Technology Design Now i think everything i took is good except chemistry Someone recently told me in architecture you probably wont have to use chemistry. Is this true? Sorry forgot to add this What courses do you guys suggest i take?? I've heard i should take physics as well but im not sure..
Texas A&M Corpus Christi offer Architecture? i know Texas A&M offers a school of Architecture but does the one in Corpus offer landscape architecture? Does any universities in Corpus or near the coast offer a Bachelors or Masters in Landscape Architecture?
Landscape Architects--how much do they make? Is this a job with value to society? How much does the avg. landscape architect make? I am trying to pick between this and Vet School. I want to start taking classes by fall 2007. I am in the admissions process of Landscape Architecture, but I am still not exactly sure this is what I want to do.....!!!! I want a professional career, and Landscape Architect seems to fit everything I want. I guess it is just hard to see into the future.....
landscape architects? is it worth going to school for 3 years to get my masters degree in landscape architecture? or does this sound like a silly degree? does anyone know anything about this?
I want to become a landscape architect I got my bachelors in Studio Fine Art and would like to become a landscape architect. I do not have any real experience in the field, but i will be taking a CAD intro class at the local community college to better my chances of getting into Grad School as well as a GRE study course. My question is, should I try to get a second bachelors in landscape architecture or will it hurt me when trying to find a job? My GPA from school was 3.1 the last sixty hours and I am still struggling to write my letter of intent for Grad school. I'm not even sure if its that good, seeing that i don't have a whole lot of experience. So would i have better chances of getting into a BLA program or a MLA program? Also if any one could tell me how long it takes to get a second bachelors it would be a great help. Thank you!
Is double majoring a good idea for Grad school applications? I want to become a landscape architect but my school doesn't offer that. I'm planing on getting my masters in Landscape Architecture, and I'm currently double majoring in Spanish and Technical Photography and minoring in Art. Is the Photography worth it. I'm just taking it because it's awesome, a g.p.a. booster, and chicks like that kind of stuff. Should I drop it or keep it? What will look better when applying for grad school?
Best College for Me? Architecture? I'm almost at the stage where I will be applying to colleges and I can't seem to find one that fits me well. I am interested in a good school for architecture and landscape design (major and minor) or interior design. I want a school that costs less than $20,000 a year, and I know thats hard to find. But with scholarships and financial aid, if I can get it to $20,000 or under, that would be good. I need it to be in the Northeast corner of the United States: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington DC, and I'm even willing to go as far as Virginia. I don't care about private vs. non-private, size (I really don't mind how small or big it is), or diversity, it doesn't matter to me. Know any good colleges with good reputations that fit my criteria?
Portfolio for architecture school? I am interested in applying to architecture schools in Canada for the Fall of 2009. I am thinking of applying to the master's program in architecture which is open to students from all academic backgrounds. My decision to study arch. was made fairly recently. I had considered it before, but hadn't given it much thought. Currently, I am in year 3 of a Life Sciences + Bioethics degree. I was fairly encouraged abt pursuing arch. after reading program websites & learning that the schools give equal consideration to non-arch. majors. I have some arts background. I really enjoy doing it. I have worked as a caricature artist, did landscape potraits and quite a decent bit of photography. My marks are fairly decent. Now I just need a good portfolio to make myself stand out among other applicants. I have more than a year to work on puting together a good portfolio. I need some suggestions-for portfolio and just general tips for admission to arch. school. I am considering Toronto & Guelph.
What are some Art and Design Colleges in Florida? What are some Art Schools in Florida and which is the best? I am very interested in Ringling of Sarasota. However, I'm working towards Interior Designs and Landscape Architecture. Please give me some ideas here! If you've been to an Art school-which one was it and what was your experience with it? Thank you!
Have you ever studied abroad in England? I live in the US and am considering studying abroad in Australia, I am not sure what I want to study (I'm thinking of landscape architecture). Did you feel that the schooling was good and how was your experience there? Are there any schools that you would recommend? I would love to go to an area that isnt entirely consumed by cities and is surrounded by beautiful sights. Any extra information would be great (like the people, things to do, weather, etc)!!
Question about grad schools for architecture or landscape architecture? i know ive asked questions of this nature before but i still need answers i want to get my masters of architecture (or landscape architecture, im not sure) even though my bachelors is in political science BUT i have not taken physics classes, and i also unfortunately basically failed calculus 1 so my question is, will i have time to retake calculus when i am at my graduate school, will i be able to take physics at the school as well OR do they expect you to come to school already knowing these and having taken classes would my option be to take a summer class at another institution in math if thats somehow possible (but i am graduating this year so i dont know how that would be done) also, ive taken art classes but what sort of things should go in my portfolio? thank you
any landscape architects?? I am considering to pursue a career in landscape architecture and was wondering if there are any landscape architects on here that could answer a couple questions for me: - What are the pros and cons of having this as a career? - What did you have to study in school and how long did it take you? - Was it hard to find a place of employment after you were done with schooling? - Does your work schedule interfere with raising your family/what are the typical hours that you work? - What are the typical tasks that you perform on a daily basis? Thank you for answering any questions I have!!
whats the difference between a Landscape Designer and Landscape Architect.? So I'm curious about the differences between Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design. My university offers a Degree in Landscape Design and Management and a Masters in Landscape Architecture. I'm only asking this b/c I an Architecture major and we recently did a project in which there was alot of landscape design involved which I really enjoyed. I LOVE Arch. I'm pretty good at it. Its just that I'm sort of undecieded as to whether I should stick to regular Arch. and obtain my B.ARCH degree and wonder what if. Or change my major to landscape design or what have you. Just note that all are very time consuming and I have no time to minor. How much would one in each profession normally make with and w/o expirience (coming right out of school)? I'm not in this for the money, though I love plants and was born with a green thumb. How great do your drawing skills need to be? I'm better at technical drawings rather than free hand. Please, no Wikipedia definitions.
How should I build my high school art portfolio? I have a list of things I want to include. Does this seem like enough content? Sketches - Animals, Person, Landscape, Architecture, Dragon, Bird Painting - Batik, Watercolour, Acrylic Other - Clay Creature, Collage :) Any other ideas? Sound good? + Oh, and plus a decorative border frame thing for each page. This is for a highschool application. :)
Have you ever studied abroad in Italy? I live in the US and am considering studying abroad in Australia, I am not sure what I want to study (I'm thinking of landscape architecture). Did you feel that the schooling was good and how was your experience there? Are there any schools that you would recommend? I would love to go to an area that isnt entirely consumed by cities and is surrounded by beautiful sights. Any extra information would be great (like the people, things to do, weather, etc)!!
About Architecture! HELP!? I'm doing a school project and need to know about internships for landscape architectures. Does anyone know how long they last, what interns do, etc.? Thanks!
i'm trying to make decision on either Kansas State U, or Cal poly pomona? I have been admitted to both school for Fall 09. but the hardest thing is i got admitted to Cal poly Pomona as Landscaping Architecture and for K-State i got admitted as an ARchitecture program. which school should i attend? is Kansas State U good school for an architecture? what's about Cal poly is it's good school for Landscape Arch?(i known that Cal poly is good school for Architecture , but never hear how Landscape major) The most important thing is i always want to become an architect. i had been talk with Cal poly counseling. she said i could graduate with my B.S as Landscape Arch then spend another 2 years for M.S. for Architecture. or should i just go straight to Architecture program at K-State any suggestion ?? Thanks you so much
Architecture- is it a good, beneficial career choice? I love to think of new ways to design places, especially houses. Whether it be kitchens and main entrances, or the exterior of houses such as landscaping. In general, I enjoy to make places..better. Even though I still am a high school student, I believe that I might have a great interest in architecture. I would like a career choice that it well paying, stable in the economy, and full of benefits- if possible. Would architecture fit there? If not, please feel free to express your thoughts!
COLLEGE!!! Please help me!? Hi, I may be only 14, but I am looking @ colleges. I have run into a problem though. I want to become a landscape architect, but I can't find out what I should take in High School to help me out. Is there anything specific I should take in High School that will give me a higher advantage in architecture. Also, which do you think would be a better school for landscape architecture, University of Florida or University of South Florida.
What should I do in New Orleans? I am a Landscape Architecture student interested in outdoor spaces, particularly parks, trails, and significant buildings or plazas. I will be in New Orleans all day this Sunday probably exploring the quarter but would like to also have some destinations in mind. Also I will have two school age boys with me.
What kind of plant life can I use for landscape in a beach house in Southern California? This isn't a real house... I am an majoring in architecture and I am currently working on a beach house project, in which I have to build a scale model.... My site is in San Diego, California... I plan on designing a house with a large backyard garden with palm trees and other trees and plants. My question is, what kind of trees and plants can I use in southern California, specifically plants that will be able to handle well in a beach environment? Keep in mind that it is a beach house, with direct access to the beach... I want to us a variety of bushes and trees that are big enough to create some privacy around the house since my site has a 6' public access walk right next to it...... I want plants that range from 1' tall to 8' tall....... I plan on using miniature palms trees scattered around the house as well... I specifically want to use mainly nice looking colorful bushes, and trees, and some nice exotic plants.... Nothing to rare, keep in mind that I need to find miniature models of these plants for my concept model. :) The main reason why I ask for your help is because I am trying to order miniature fake plastic scaled trees and plants for my concept model. I need specific species of plants, bushes, and trees in order to know what type of mini tree to order online.... I not looking for flowers and stuff like that, I prefer plants, bushes, and trees.... My house will be a light colored modern looking house, most likely white with irregular shapes, and high glass panel windows to take advantage of the Pacific Ocean view.... Im just adding that so you can visualize what Im trying to do, :) Thank you so much for your help in advance... I plan on transferring to a highly ranked architecture school, and I want this model to impress when I make a portfolio out of it.
acceptance into the university of texas at austin? I am going to be a senior next year in high school and i really want to go to UT. I am only ranked about the top 40 in my class and its not a big class maybe 200. I dont think i did that well on my ACT i only got a 20. I do extracurricular stuff as well like sports. Do u think its possible.
I need to find a botany program for high school level home schoolers. Any suggestions? Hi, I'm a senior in high school, and I'm home schooling myself. I've been searching online for a botany program for some time now, but i'm not getting anywhere. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of a really good botany program. I'm hoping to pursue a career in Landscape design or architecture, and I figured it would be a good idea to take a botany class in high school. Thanks so much for any information you can give me. xxx Goldilocks
Should graduate school students dress up? I mean graduate students for classes and for presentations, not referring to interviews. If it a professional degree are you expected to dress professionally? (I'm going for Landscape Architecture)

What should be a good career to get in to? I am going to college, and I am going for something that has to do with drawing. Either in Drafting or Architecture .... Buildings, Industry Products or Landscape. I am having a hard time trying to decide which area to major in. I start college in May for remedial study since I have been out of school for quite some time. Since job demand goes by where you live, I live in Monroe, Michigan if that helps. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
A Greener School? What kinds of modifications would you have to make a environmentally efficient school (e.g. Architecture, Landscaping, Energy Conservation, Transportation, Food Consumption, etc)? Please list resources if possible.
which course will benenfit me the most? Our high school is offering advance courses for the advance classes for our junior year(next year). I don't think this would have any official record that a collage would be able to see. So this would just be for the pure benefit of it. The Courses are: Public Speaking - Writing and preforming different types of speeches. Advanced Biology - Introduction to botany, zoology, leading to comparative anatomy. Business Math - Basic accounting principles and applications of math in business. Art and Design - Elements of design used in architecture, landscaping etc. Cultural Anthropology/World Religions - Study of culture and religions as factors of moder and historical events. Research and Documentation - How to annotate research Data, make footnotes, bibliographies etc. I think the the last one would be the most beneficial as it can be applied in all other subjects. Some life experience would be much appreciated. We would still have a normal curriculum in addition to this.
Of all the CSU colleges, which one would I like the best? I want to go to a really big college I want it near the beach and near a lot of shopping and cities Pretty campus, good architecture and landscaping Nice dorms, not cheap/dumpy any info pleaseeee about these schools majoring in business
What should I charge for a design job? I just finished my sophmore year in school. My major is Landscape Architecture. I happened across a design job and have no idea how much to charge for my services. I don't know if my client is only going to want me to design or do design build. As far as the design aspect, I plan on providing a Master Plan, Planting Schedule, a Perspective, Elevations, and Details where necessary. If I do the build part as well what should my fee be for heading the instalation and running the crew? The lot is fairly large, 2 acres, but I have not been givin a budget yet, still have to talk over a few things with my client.

What are my chances of getting into a semi-selective college? My grades were decent freshman year, perfect (4.0 gpa, 4.2 weighted) sophomore year, but so far this semester has been really hard for me; I still have to take my exams but I think I will end up with 3 A's, 2 B-'s and possibly one C+ or B-. Ive had some personal issues but I think I can do much better next semester. my gpa is 3.7.I'm in marching band, color guard, yearbook, and I have a really great job as a florist. I plan on taking more extracurriculars and possibly tutoring, and will probably get into NHS at my school. I am also going to volunteer this summer and take a few design/architecture classes at our local college. I want to major in Landscape Architecture in college, and the most selective schools I will apply to are probably UVa, Illinois Urbana-Champlain, and UW Madison. What are my chances of getting in to any given school, mainly the ones mentioned, even with an iffy start to my junior year? (p.s.- havent taken ACT's yet but I took a practice test and am aiming for a 28 I just have one more question: what is Uofl? University of Florida? Good to know I would most likely get in but I dont want to go to school there! :-) thanks anyway!
Top Design Universities in the US.? I am halfway through 11th grade and I need to start focusing on what I want to do in university. I really want to do something with design, specifically architecture, interioir design or landscape architecture, but I am not entirely sure which. Can I take general design my first year of university than focus more on a specific area later on. And back to my main question, what are some top rated design schools in the US??
College in Shanghai, China? I am moving to Shanghai in the next few months. I would like to study Landscape Architecture, but I'm not sure how to locate schools in the area that offer the degree. I did find the Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Continuing Education Center, but they are limited on degrees. Can anyone give me links to schools in Shanghai (taught in English only) for a Landscape Architecture Degree?
Transfer to UC or just go to state university? I am currently a senior that has applied to many schools but due to the budget crisis, I got rejected at many schools. I am planning to major in Architecture or related majors. I got accepted to Cal Poly Pomona for landscape architecture, and got placed in the waiting list for CSULB for Interior architectural Design. I am still waiting for another college that I applied in Canada for Architectural studies. My problem is that my family is just right to pay for CSU yearly, but they prefered if I just transfered to either UCB or UCLA for architecture as a junior from Community College. I guess it's cheaper to transfer but wouldn't it be harder to transfer in? Which option should I take?
HELP PLEASE! ASAP Which course is right for me, Architecture or Information Design? I just graduated from high school and i'm on my way to college, but i'm having a hard time choosing between these 2 courses. I like both and i see myself being good at them. Architecture - i like art/draw, design stuff - my dad is a well known architect - i wanted to be an architect since i was little - i have more advantages than any other architecture student(because of my dad etc) - i really like to improve our city and provincial landscape - profession - boring at times - unlimited work Information Design - i can go to Advertising - it has art and communication in it. - computer stuff is needed here and i like some computer art programs/graphics stuff - i like designing new and creative things - really revolves around ART - it's a new trend and it's easier to get a job here - it can give me different job opportunities(eg. advertising employee, freelance designer etc) - lots of competition - i'm kind of a shy person BUT i want to improve my public relation skills. my life=ART
What school should I go to? Hey I have no idea what college I want to go to.. I want to go to a college that is around a very foresty area. I want to major in either psychology or do something with landscaping or Architecture or Construction. I am mainly looking to major in psychology at this given time. Your help in this matter is most appreciated!

I dropped out of a calstate long beach 3 years ago, I want to go to calpoly san luis obispo, help? I was accepted to both calstates right out of high school, I decided to attend CalstateLB for family reasons. My main career dream has been in the field of landscape architecture but like an idiot I picked the school without the right profession. In overall, I wasted my time and dropped class and failed 2 or 3. So before getting kicked out, I took an educational leave and never went back. In my lost transition I decided to go to a cooking school and attended only 1 month and realized wasn't for me so I dropped again. I've mostly worked after that and a year ago I've been attending a medical trade school and will be graduating in march so I can get a job that pays the bills. I'm 23 now I keep regreting never taking the right opportunity. My main concern now is I want to get admitted into calpolySO, so for starters how do I start the process to get in and will my past educational failure affect me in anyway?
future job?? well i was thinking in school because in school at the moment we are doing those "plan for your future" things and i was thinking what a good job would be for me i really like landscape architecture computers (finding things out about thier software) and animals so i got confused because those are all completely different things. my question is what kind of job would be perfect for me (i came here because i don't think many people have jobs in 8th grade so i cant ask my friends and other people lol)
College Application Process...Help!!!? ok... i am about ot be a senior this fall... and i will be applying for college aswell... and i need help with all this college process.. and also im first generaation student and makes it even harder becasue i have no one to help me out... (before i start i plan to study landscape architecture and have chosen the colleges -- Cal Ploy SLO or Pomona.. i live in CA) MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1. Should I work on my college application as soon as i start school? 2. when is the right time to fill out the FAFSA? 3. when you take your SAT and ACT do they send your tests scores to the colleges you listed(because i totally changed what i wanna be and listed other colleges than the ones i want to apply for) or do you yourself send them or do you ask your counselor to send it w/ your transcript? 4. Should i apply to college online or by mail and if you do it by mail do you include w/ it the essay and letters of recommendation? Sorry for so many questions but please im nervous/excited!
Getting into Cal Poly SLO? So Cal Poly will be the only school I'm applying to this year, as it's one of only about 3 universities in the state that have a Bachelor's in Landscape Architecture, the others being Cal Poly Pamona and UC Davis. I just started my senior year in high school, and should be graduating with a weighted GPA of around 4.2 provided my grades don't suddenly slip for any reason. I haven't taken the SAT I or ACT yet, but I'll be taking both this fall. I'm confident about being able to get in, but I would like other opinions and any suggestions about what I might do to improve my chances.
I have a huge problem I really need some advice adults only? Hello, my husband and I have our own business. (landscape architecture) based out of our home. We have a huge house no kids yet because we plan on having that when I graduate from the ultrasound program next year. I will be an ultrasound tech. Anyways, due to the economy going down and things we are barely making ends meat. We purchased this house to have a family in a year and a half. Well, our business isn't doing so well anymore and my husband said that because I am a magazine model as well he feels that I should be an adult star like a topless high paid dancer traveling from strip club to strip club on the weekends. So I was hesitant about it and since i am in ultrasound school this would help us keep our home. Our home is 3000 a month andi can make that in 2 weeks as an adult star feature entertainer. They want to hire me at 150 an hour for 3 hours a night and i will get a check at the end of the weekend. I felt uncomfortable with this kind of was thinking yes I can do this then I felt like I didnt want to because I tired it before and my husband said he didnt like it but now he is telling me i really need to do this so we can keep our house. I told him we can move out and sell our house and rent a house and i won't have to do it and we can get caught up with the irs which we still owe 70 grand for not paying them. If we stay in this house then I will have to strip for the clubs on weekends paid hourly cause i am a magazine model but i still wont' be able to pay the irs back only the bills if I stay here. If i move out into rental home i can pay back the irs and i wont have to strip at all. but he is mad he wants me to strip he wants to keep the house because he loves it here its our home and he has grown attached to it. What do you think it best he is making me feel like crap for how i feel. I feel that we should sell the house and move into rental and save money get out of debt with the irs and I won't have to get room mates and strip cause I will be in a rental home or stay in our big house and strip to help with the bills until the economy is doing better and also get room mates. What woud you do what decision would you make

Does luck as opposed to work ethic influence you more when becoming a successful architect? Architecture seems to me like a highly enjoyable profession. This is what I want to become, but I also want to be nearly guaranteed at least 40k over the median income of about 60k a year. So, if you attend a top school that is not only known for its overall acedemics, but also for its architecture program in specific, get your master of architecture degree, and become a general home designing architect (not landscape) at a prestigeous firm, is making over 100k pretty much guaranteed or not? Please tell me what steps I could take to make sure I have a very good chance of making good money and being successful in this field.
I need help deciding on a college Degree? I've already been to college once and withdrew from my program after I decided I did not enjoy it. I now have about 80 credit hours I can transfer into another program but because I am 30k in debt to student loans I do not want to rush into another degree I wouldn't not enjoy. Honestly, not to sound conceited, I do not think there is any program beyond my ability to complete. I took education very seriously in grade school and I am also very artistically inclined. So, here is what Interests me but I can not think of any type of career it would apply to. The bottom line is that I would love to do any type of humanitarian work that will help future generation. Urban/park development... social responsibility... something along those moral lines. I enjoy: welding, painting, working with animals of all types (land and sea), architecture, history, english, writing, TRAVELING, expeditions, designing space layouts, landscaping, building and organizing projects. anything is a huge help! In case you are wondering: my degree was a Digital media production major. In encompassed film, recording arts, webdesign, lighting, and sound.

ARTIST ID: Help needed!? I am looking for a painter who I studied at some point in school but have long since forgotten the name of... I'm not sure, but I think he was big in the 60's-80's He is a male. His art is quite surreal, and has a fantasy style... Works of his that I remember include a sort of robotical/bionical horse, with wires and connections all over it.... Also some fantasy work which included strange buildings, bubble and circular architecture, strange animals, generally surreal looking landscapes with alien-like architecture and little humanoids occupying these buildings....... I think he designed some sort of spherical modern looking chairs, and other weird furniture. .... I don't know really anything more.... Hmmmm, I really can't remember his name.... I'm sure it ends in 'stein', 'berg', 'burg', 'heim' or something with an eastern european sound.... any help would be GREATLY appreciated. KIDS: This is the reason you should steer clear of drugs, they are NO good for your memory :)
question to Torrry about pedophile question? did you know not a fair question due to the fact that we have different cultures and times even back in "little house on the prarie" days 14- 16yr olds were considered to be fully grown capable men and women. Our great proud country hones irresponsible children. look at our digression now whereas back then work and responsibility grew them up faster and now tv and video games grow them up slower even though they look grown at 8 with fully developed bodies (thanks to certain scientists that like to tamper with public school foods) but they are not. A sixteen year old boy back then probably had what would be the equivelant of a high degree of landscaping, carpentry and perhaps even architecture just by working with his dad out in the field now our kids are experts at world of war craft dungeons and dragons internet surfing hacking and stealing and halo 3 whoa! really responsible even with the argument that they learn technical skill how often is it really that kids go into this field if life is a gift who gave the gift? you are free from religion by choice and also depriving yourself of a relationship with the most high God Jesus Chist. although i am VERY greatful for all the thing God has blessed me with my eyes are not closed to the pitfalls of society. God wants us to be sober and watch the times.technology is nice but most of it is designed to make us lazy I am apart of this time too dont forget that and I know GOD birthed me in this time and not those times for a reason but we can not escape the fact that technology is a bit much aside from "some" medical uses. Yup I am laing across my bed listening to my bible study when I saw a question that moved me enough to answer lets continue in truth God uses even things that are menat to do bad for His use and He is Worthy to be praised!!!!
what to put in my portfolio for a photographer position? im applying for a photographer position at a local studio. they do wedding, children/family, and senior photography. the position is mostly for children section. anyways, they want a portfolio of some photos and i was wondering what should i use. most of my experience has been with nature, architecture, landscape... basically not people. BUT back in high school i took a lot of my friends pictures senior year and also group/club/sport pictures for yearbook. i was thinking to use my friends headshot/portraits.. but the studio is in a small town and my friends who i took photos of are black and im wondering if they might be racist. i guess the only thing i can do is send them, i just dont want to get questioned about it by some racist woman in an interview and i dont know how to react if something like that would happen in that situation. any help with this specific question or anything else dealing with photography would be helpful, thanks. Thanks KK. I was thinking about that, but then again, i would be photographing children/families, so i wasnt sure if they would really want to see my other stuff. i will probably mix it up to show versatility.
Need help deciding on what to focus on in school? I am currently a psychology major but I'm having second thoughts about it. I'm not known as being an outgoing and open person & my family wonders why/ how in the world am I going to talk to people to be successful in my major. I've definitely realized that I am kind of antisocial but I also realized I want to change that. So I'm thinking hopefully if I stick with this major it will help me become the person I want to but then again change is hard for me & it's really hard not letting what my own family said bring me down. I'm not sure what else I'd study. I want something that'll get me a job I love, where I can mostly work on my own. I'm not a business person at all, so not that. I'm considering Community Health or Landscape Architecture just because job outlook looks better than with psych and seems doable. I know most psych majors don't actually work in their field after college, mostly marketing stuff and that doesn't sound like me. What does anyone else think?
How to start a construction company, no kid answers please? You could say I'm a hardcore go get-er, I've graduated highschool with honours but decided not to go to university because my vision was different but now i'm having second thoughts. I always wanted to do something with properties, i started going door to door for lawncare when i was 16, by 17 i was doing landscaping with boulders and bobcats and building decks now 18 i continued doing that except i was doing a little bit of interior work. Now i'm recovering from a car accident that i had 2 months ago, i still can't walk, which gave me a load of free time to plan my future. I'm dreaming that one day maybe a decade later I will be building not just homes but industrial buildings, concrete based buildings, from car washes, plazas to condos. I know this gets so much more technical than stuff i'm doing. Would I be able to achieve this through the route i'm taking? should i go to school for architecture? Will I be able to just hire someone for that? Any help and insight will be appreciated
Expectations in College? As it is, I'm a Sophomore in high school... ---I get my work done and go way past my expectations, but I am a procrastinator. ---The best work ethic I have are in the classes PreAP English II and Art II... If I were in a regular English class, I'd be scoring over a 100 and I'm making a 100 in Art. ---That's just a little info. for you about me. My question is, "What are the expectations in college? I'm going to college for the following reasons... -*-I'd like to be extremely successful in my chosen profession (landscaping, architecture, interior design, advertising artist, graphic designer, painter..) and I'm not going to go beyond my expectations unless I go to college. *I'd have more people to fill in as my friends when I'm feeling out a job application for the boss to see if I'm reliable. *I feel I'm going to school with dummies and have not yet reached the peak of knowledge that I'm capable of handling. *Going to college looks better on a college application.
