Hi, i am going to a community college this fall and i want to major in landscape architecture. i am hoping to transfer to uc berkely after i get enough credits. the only problem is that the community college i am going to does not have a architecture program. does this disqualify me from entering to an uc ? because i really want to major in LA . what should i do ?
Landscape Architecture: UC Davis vs Cal Poly SLO? I am a graduating high school senior who has been accepted into Cal Poly SLO and I have a good chance of getting into UC Davis. What colleges have good landscape design programs? I am now a Senior in high school and have become somewhat interested in landscape design/architecture. However, I can't find any college degree programs that fit this job title. I am trying to stay in the northwest, specifically Washington or Oregon. Could someone please help me or let me know of any that are out there? Thanks.
Landscape Architecture? I'm currently a student in a rather prestigious university (Purdue), majoring in Landscape Architecture. I'm only a freshman, but I like it a lot. The undergraduate program in LA is well recognized (ranked in the top 10 in LA by Design Intelligence). The only problem is that I don't know if the profession is all that it is hyped up to be. Any insight on this would be helpful. I'm also thinking about Business Construction Management, which is another program here that I am considering. My current academic GPA is a 3.0, if this helps.
english degree vs landscape architecture? I am going to be a senior in the fall with a degree in english and have realised that their is no job that I would actually want to do once I have graduated. I used to want to be an architect especially landscape architecture should I get a dual degree in english and landscape architecture, try to get into a master's architecture program, or not do architecture at all?
At this point, how do I get started with a career in architecture? I'm a Junior at UC Davis majoring in Biological Sciences, but what I really want to do is architecture. I learned that the landscape architecture program requires too many number of units that I can't surpass. I also don't know if I can transfer schools at this point. What do i do? Most transfers are only accepted at the Junior level, which I am about to begin.
Urban planning or Civil engineering a better undergrad degree before Architecture/Landscape Architecture? Is an undergrad degree in Urban Planning or Civil Engineering more useful if I want to take Architecture of Landscape architecture as a masters program?
I'm looking for a college of landscape design or architecture. Anyone know of any good schools? I'm a senior in high school, and I'm looking to go into landscape architecture. I would like to go to a college that has a very good landscape program. Preferably the school is located in a semi warm climate, but I'm open to any schools at all. I'm also looking for a relatively small school, but again, I'm open. Thanks so much! xxx Goldilocks
Urban Planning vs Landscape architecture? I am an urban planning major in college. Does anyone have any suggestion on whether should peruse a masters in urban planning, a masters in landscape architecture, or a dual degree program (MURP and MLA)?
What is the difference between architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning? I'm applying for the CAP program at Ball State (Muncie, IN), and although I don't need to know until my sophomore year which one I want to major in, I still want to have an idea. I honestly am interested in all three, but I obviously need to choose one. Is there anyone who has more information/details about each, or a specific one? Any one with experience or knowledge on the topics. I'd appreciate it.
Where to go for a Master's in Landscape Architecture? I'm currently enrolled in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Bachelor's degree program, and I was wondering which universities would be a good match, whether it is similar or complimentary, to CP SLO's teaching curriculum. Or which universities hold the best MLA programs in general?
How does a landscape architect get a ME degree? Would I need to go back for a bachelor's in engineering? I have an undergrad degree in landscape architecture and want to get a master's in engineering. Do I need a bachelor's in engineering first or are their programs that will count my landscape architect degree as fulfilling the requirements?
Have you heard about UNLV's Architecture program? I am going to either UNLV as architecture major or Cal Poly Pomona as Landscape architecture major. Which one is better you think when you are planning to be an Architect. However, I never heard about UNLV's architecture program. Can anyone give me any information about it? Is that a good program? Job oppertunity?
Does Michigan State have an architecture program? Is it ONLY landscape architecture?
Would you need a bachelors degree in philosophy in order to go get into a graduate school for philosophy? I'm currently a senior in an undergraduate landscape architecture program. I having doubts about my future career in this program. I was wondering if most schools offer a graduate program that offers both a bachelors and masters degree in philosophy regardless of your undergraduate degree.
Changin my major from Business Administration to Landscape Architecture? Ok I am currently at a four year private school and I am a junior. I am a business administration major but I have ALWAYS wanted to be a landscape architect and I am transferring schools so I can be closer to home. However, I am going stick with business administration and I plan on getting my bachelors in it in spring 2009. Here is my situation, I have heard that I could go to graduate school for "Master of Landscape Architecure" and get my masters in that, therefore I get a that nice combo. I have been advised that it is sort of late to try to get my bachelors now in Landscape architecture because I would spend another entire academic year just doing the pre-reqs to get into the program which is going to hold me back longer. What do you guys think? What should I do? Is it a good idea to just get my bachelors in business then master in landscape architecture? please give me any ideas/advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot!
What graphic design programs will work on a PowerPC iMac? I would like to do like 3d landscape and architecture type stuff. Are there like adobe programs that will accommodate my needs?

Career change: Interior Design vs Landscape Architecture? I am considering a career change and going to graduate school in order to makie the transition. I am passionate about design and gardening and am trying to decide which would be a better career. I think interior design may be more fun in that much more time would be spent on "design." However, I worry about job prospects. Just a simple google search shows there are no jobs out there. However, the graduate program does include an internship so that might be a good opportunity. Landscape architecture would be much less creative but the job market is great. Besides, I am obsessed with plants! What to do???? Thanks!!!
Project based on Landscape Architecture - Need Help....? The title says it all - I need a help with my Personal Project that is based on Landscape Architecture.. I'm going to design sketches of a Park, and I would like to know what type of Software(s) or Comp. Programme(s) I should use to do this? There are points that should be known firstly: 1) I'm also going to possibly (Not yet sure) to take a real empty land in Jakarta (This park is going to be based in Jakarta) to base my "Sketches of Park" (I'm not actually making the Park, only designing - planning it).. 2) I'm going to add some Indonesia Cultures - Elements onto the Park, so I would have to also sketch some wooden carvings or the kind.. And lastly, I have another question: Do you think in my position that it would be better for me to sketch my Parks with the Computer or Manually (With hands, writing tools and paper)? Just so you know, I'm not a Tech - Savvy person, however, I can draw quite well.. The best option would be to draw it by hands (For me), but, would that be a bad idea for this Personal Project? Thanks for your help :)

Landscape Architecture Thesis? I'm enrolled in the Master's Degree Program. I will have to complete my thesis by May 2010. This degree is quite hard, so the sooner I start the better off I will be because the research takes a lot of time. Any suggestions for topics, ideas? Thanks so much. :o)

Can I enroll into one major, and take classes for another major? I am considering attending the University of Washington in a year or two and I really would like to get into the Landscape Architecture program they have there. However, the admission requirements the program calls for include courses my community college does not offer, only the university offers these prerequisites. So I was wondering if I could enroll into another major, say Sociology (this is also a major I am considering), and take classes that are pre-reqs for the landscape architecture program while also taking some classes towards the Sociology major. After I completed the landscape architecture pre-reqs I would switch my major to that. Is this possible? I am going to talk to my college adviser soon but I thought it would be worth it to ask my questions on here. If anyone is KNOWLEDGEABLE in this area I would really like to know what you think. SERIOUS answers only please. Thank you. If you need more clarification, just ask.
Any tips for starting an admissions essay/personal statement? I'm in the process of applying to NC State University as a transfer back in my hometown of Raleigh NC. I'm currently attending school in FL, and recently changed my major from Structural Architecture to Landscape Design & Management (LDM). Although my current school's LDM program is pretty good, I wont be able to become a licensed Landscape Architect with a LDM degree and NC State has a great Landscape Architecture program. As I mentioned, I'm in the process of doing the application, but unfortunately I'm stuck on the starting personal statement. Although this portion is optional, it just seems like a good idea to write one anyway. They also ask: "Discuss any obstacles and/or hardships you have encountered and how you dealt with them." "Describe the reasons you have chosen to enter the major that you selected previously in this application." and "What is your view of diversity and its importance in education?" And like the personal statement, I'm stuck on starting. Any tips?
Should I change majors? I am 21 years old, a junior, and in my second year in the Landscape Architecture program. Ever since I have started my education studying design, I have mostly disliked the projects, and have always been extremely frustrated with my work. Most of the frustration comes from not knowing how to design landscapes such as residential communities or urban parks, no confidence in drawing, nor understanding what my professors are saying to me. The reason I kept with it is because I sort of like the aspect of being creative, but when it comes to being creative professionally, this is where I become frustrated on how to approach these projects. To me designing is all subjective visual bullshit. I have many times thought of switching to Philosophy or law because its a more structured logical way of thinking and understanding how things work, whereas design is all open-ended. Design is basically this: If you can visually bullshit your design, with intensive craft and creative thinking skills, which I lack or have no confidence in, you get an A. Now I am at a point where I'm just motivated to get the grades and my degree with no prospect on the future. I'm not liking the person I am becoming. I'm halfway through the program and not looking forward to the remaining two and a half years. At the same time I'm getting decent grades, and want to finish because I don't want the last three years to be a waste. What do you think?
I want to become a landscape architect I got my bachelors in Studio Fine Art and would like to become a landscape architect. I do not have any real experience in the field, but i will be taking a CAD intro class at the local community college to better my chances of getting into Grad School as well as a GRE study course. My question is, should I try to get a second bachelors in landscape architecture or will it hurt me when trying to find a job? My GPA from school was 3.1 the last sixty hours and I am still struggling to write my letter of intent for Grad school. I'm not even sure if its that good, seeing that i don't have a whole lot of experience. So would i have better chances of getting into a BLA program or a MLA program? Also if any one could tell me how long it takes to get a second bachelors it would be a great help. Thank you!

How important is grad school quality in getting hired as a landscape architect? I'm planning to go to grad school to get my Masters in Landscape Architecture. The only schools I'm considering are Temple and the University of Pennsylvania because I want to stay in Philadelphia. I could probably get into both schools, but I have a dilemma: Temple is much cheaper, and I could start this fall because it has late application deadlines. However, the program is only in the process of getting accredited and is very new. (It would be accredited by the time I graduate.) UPenn is obviously a very prestigious school, but it's more expensive, and I have already missed the deadlines to apply for this fall. The thought of spending another year in my current soul-crushing job is almost unbearable. Would I be hurting my chances of finding employment after I graduate by choosing the less-prestigious school because it's more convenient, or are employers only interested that you graduate from an accredited program? Any insight is appreciated but especially that that is specific to landscape architecture. Thanks!
what are my chances at getting accepted at cal poly pomona? i have a 3.4-3.55 weighted gpa my sat score is around 1800 (around 600 per each section) i live in california * i want to major in landscape architecture don't tell me to look it up cause i did. i know i have a fair chance at getting in, but i heard architecture is an impacted major and that if people don't make it into the architecture program, they switch over to landscape architecture. so knowing that, will i still be able to get in? i'm also turning in my application the first week it comes out. will that help at all?
Help ME,College? I'm confused here. I want to stay in Pennsylvania for Landscape Architecture. My tuition at Lehigh is free, however I want to go to PSU since there 4th in the nation for their L.A. program. Lehigh however only has an Arts and Architecture program. Is it a good idea to start off at Lehigh for my required classes like English, etc... and then switch to PSU later on for just the L.A. classes?
i'm trying to make decision on either Kansas State U, or Cal poly pomona? I have been admitted to both school for Fall 09. but the hardest thing is i got admitted to Cal poly Pomona as Landscaping Architecture and for K-State i got admitted as an ARchitecture program. which school should i attend? is Kansas State U good school for an architecture? what's about Cal poly is it's good school for Landscape Arch?(i known that Cal poly is good school for Architecture , but never hear how Landscape major) The most important thing is i always want to become an architect. i had been talk with Cal poly counseling. she said i could graduate with my B.S as Landscape Arch then spend another 2 years for M.S. for Architecture. or should i just go straight to Architecture program at K-State any suggestion ?? Thanks you so much
UCI? UC Davis? Cal Poly Pomona? Chance me!? GOALS! Please chance me honestly. I'd rather hear an honest one than one that'll bring up my self esteem, but is useless. Top 3 choices: UC Davis - City/Community/Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture Cal Poly Pomona - Landscape Architecture, Architecture UC Irvine -Environmental Architecture NOTE: Cal Poly Pomona is VERY selective about its architecture program, in case you guys didn't know. I want to know my chance for Cal Poly Pomona with respect to its architecture program, not the average. Should I move to LA for a film career? I am currently a freshman at Oklahoma State majoring in Landscape Architecture. However, I want to pursue a career in film. My question is, should I stay at OSU and just switch my major to theater and then move to LA to study film after I graduate here, or go ahead and move to LA, go to a community college for a year, and then transfer to UCLA's undergraduate film program?
certified associate in project management? I have a bachelor degree in landscape architecture and am looking at a program for a certified associate in project management because the economy has made the job market for landscape architects especially bad. What kind of job opportunities would be available for me with this certification and background and will it be worth it?
Architecture schools? What are some colleges and universities in the US known for a strong undergraduate program in architecture? Or a program known to lead to eventual success as a landscape/building architect? I'm not looking to apply or anything, I just need names of some well-known prestigious schools in the field (Public and Private schools welcome) Thanks a bundle!
I need to find a botany program for high school level home schoolers. Any suggestions? Hi, I'm a senior in high school, and I'm home schooling myself. I've been searching online for a botany program for some time now, but i'm not getting anywhere. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of a really good botany program. I'm hoping to pursue a career in Landscape design or architecture, and I figured it would be a good idea to take a botany class in high school. Thanks so much for any information you can give me. xxx Goldilocks
What are some good universities in California that have good architecture or interior design programs? Preferably landscape architecture being that i want to become a landscape architect.
Portfolio for architecture school? I am interested in applying to architecture schools in Canada for the Fall of 2009. I am thinking of applying to the master's program in architecture which is open to students from all academic backgrounds. My decision to study arch. was made fairly recently. I had considered it before, but hadn't given it much thought. Currently, I am in year 3 of a Life Sciences + Bioethics degree. I was fairly encouraged abt pursuing arch. after reading program websites & learning that the schools give equal consideration to non-arch. majors. I have some arts background. I really enjoy doing it. I have worked as a caricature artist, did landscape potraits and quite a decent bit of photography. My marks are fairly decent. Now I just need a good portfolio to make myself stand out among other applicants. I have more than a year to work on puting together a good portfolio. I need some suggestions-for portfolio and just general tips for admission to arch. school. I am considering Toronto & Guelph.
What is a good Architecture program? I am soon to be a student at Georgia Tech to become an architect. Is there any good programs to mess around with kind of like the sims graphic but not game play :p . I use both AutoCAD and Revit Architecture Suite, along with Revit MEP. Is there any other programs that are good for maybe house design and landscaping?
i need a program for landscaping and 3d architechture can anyone help here? i need a program for landscaping and 3d architechture can anyone help here? I need a program that allows me to design & build architectures. Thanks!
HELP PLEASE! ASAP Which course is right for me, Architecture or Information Design? I just graduated from high school and i'm on my way to college, but i'm having a hard time choosing between these 2 courses. I like both and i see myself being good at them. Architecture - i like art/draw, design stuff - my dad is a well known architect - i wanted to be an architect since i was little - i have more advantages than any other architecture student(because of my dad etc) - i really like to improve our city and provincial landscape - profession - boring at times - unlimited work Information Design - i can go to Advertising - it has art and communication in it. - computer stuff is needed here and i like some computer art programs/graphics stuff - i like designing new and creative things - really revolves around ART - it's a new trend and it's easier to get a job here - it can give me different job opportunities(eg. advertising employee, freelance designer etc) - lots of competition - i'm kind of a shy person BUT i want to improve my public relation skills. my life=ART
What major should I go for if I am extremely good with computers and like to help the environment and do labor? I'm struggling to figure out what to major in for college. I am extremely computer literate, and even know more than my computer science professor. So naturally Computer Science would be a good major for me. But when I researched it, I have to take 5 more classes of calculus, and you have to constantly read about the new languages that develop as technology changes. Although I'm good at math and know I could make it into UCLA if I want, I don't want a job like that. I want a job that utilizes computer programs but doesn't revolve around it. I have many interests, especially of protecting the environment and working in the garden t (no I'm not gay). What would be a good major for me to choose? I've thought about landscape architecture, but I'm still not too sure if I would be the best at that job. I'm afraid if I get an Environmental Science degree I'll end up being a teacher.
First time home buyer, good credit 730+ self employed less than one year.? I am a self employed prospective home buyer. I will be graduating in may with a BA In landscape Architecture. This is what I have run into.. I have just filed my first year of tax returns. So basically the business is under a year old. My credit score is around 730-740. The problem mortgage companies have been telling me I have is lack of employment. Althought I know money is not a problem, I can not just promise them. Also I have $60,000 in available credit with $2,000 used. Where should I go to get the best rates? One company told me about a variable program with a 8.5% rate. This seemed high to me. What Can I do to get a mortgage?
Architecture- Sorry, asking with more clarity. I need portfolio Ideas.? I am applying to a fresmen scholarship program (for wash U) and I need some Ideas on how I can finish off my portfolio. I need 12 pieces, and right now I have 10. Every Item must exibit creativity Ionly do hand drafting. I can't submite any mechanical drafts- they don't want those. I have to take photos of these and submite them in slide form. Right now in my portfolio, I have: One architectural model. (house) One Landscape model (city park) One home-built Bass One slide of clips from movies. Several Pieces of artwork. Several sets of plans, with elevation, sections, plans ect. p.s. I don't have a camera I can use of any sort of quality.
Does luck as opposed to work ethic influence you more when becoming a successful architect? Architecture seems to me like a highly enjoyable profession. This is what I want to become, but I also want to be nearly guaranteed at least 40k over the median income of about 60k a year. So, if you attend a top school that is not only known for its overall acedemics, but also for its architecture program in specific, get your master of architecture degree, and become a general home designing architect (not landscape) at a prestigeous firm, is making over 100k pretty much guaranteed or not? Please tell me what steps I could take to make sure I have a very good chance of making good money and being successful in this field.
Should I move to LA to study film? I am currently in my second semester of my freshman year at Oklahoma State University majoring in Landscape Architecture. I have always wanted to study film/cinematography and possibly do something in the movie business whether it be act, produce, direct, manage, etc...I'm not really that driven to do Landscape Architecture as I am with film, because film is my real passion. My current plan is to finish up this next semester of college, then transfer to a community college in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area that takes part in the Transfer Alliance Program (TAP), finish out there and then transfer to UCLA and major in film. What do you think of this plan? Does it sound reasonable? What advice would you give to me? ANY feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
what should i do...school/work/life? :)? I normally wouldn't be asking, but I just want some thoughts. I'm graduating in may from a large university, with a b.s. in agriculture. My husband has one more year left after me, and he'll have a b.a. in landscape architecture (not contracting, he'll be planning malls, parks, etc), and should be making good money after he graduates in 2010. I've recently realized (maybe a little too late!) that although agriculture was awesome to learn about and is more than just farming, there's not really any jobs in it aside from the government and out west (and not really where we're planning on living). So, I want to go back to school for nursing. I guess my question is... should I work for a year and concentrate on paying off some of my loans, or just... go straight into an nursing program and add to my debt and just pay it all off at once? I'm having a hard time finding ANY job, really, not just in agriculture.I've done other things too, so I could work in an office or something, but its just not happening for me. So, what do you think? School, work, or both?
What do you learn in architecture school? I'm currently in grade 12 (about halfway done 1st semester) and hopefully going to college/university next year. I've always been interested in the arts, specifically drawing characters/landscapes, and I was thinking of becoming a game designer because I love technology as well, and thinking about how amazing technology will be 20 years from now and being able to work with it seems exciting. But recently I have been thinking about architecture as a career because I think it would be more fulfilling and I like the thought of taking an idea from my own head and turning it into something real (as apposed to a video games false sense of reality) that people can actually walk through and experience. On another note, saying "I'm an architect" just sounds good :). The problem is I haven't really ever been that interesting/involved in designing structures and I don't really know what makes a structure look appealing - they just do (look appealing). I've been researching architecture (and civil engineering) a lot the past couple days and I'm not sure I possess the ability to design buildings specifically. I know in architecture school I would learn about technical aspects and efficient building layouts and stuff like that, but is simply having artistic skill/background enough? am I cut out for this? Are there any professionals or students currently in an architecture program that can give me a taste of what you learn? like architecture design theory or something? what sorts of courses are there? because currently I don't have any clues on how to make a building look nice. Thanks, Jay
I have a huge problem I really need some advice adults only? Hello, my husband and I have our own business. (landscape architecture) based out of our home. We have a huge house no kids yet because we plan on having that when I graduate from the ultrasound program next year. I will be an ultrasound tech. Anyways, due to the economy going down and things we are barely making ends meat. We purchased this house to have a family in a year and a half. Well, our business isn't doing so well anymore and my husband said that because I am a magazine model as well he feels that I should be an adult star like a topless high paid dancer traveling from strip club to strip club on the weekends. So I was hesitant about it and since i am in ultrasound school this would help us keep our home. Our home is 3000 a month andi can make that in 2 weeks as an adult star feature entertainer. They want to hire me at 150 an hour for 3 hours a night and i will get a check at the end of the weekend. I felt uncomfortable with this kind of was thinking yes I can do this then I felt like I didnt want to because I tired it before and my husband said he didnt like it but now he is telling me i really need to do this so we can keep our house. I told him we can move out and sell our house and rent a house and i won't have to do it and we can get caught up with the irs which we still owe 70 grand for not paying them. If we stay in this house then I will have to strip for the clubs on weekends paid hourly cause i am a magazine model but i still wont' be able to pay the irs back only the bills if I stay here. If i move out into rental home i can pay back the irs and i wont have to strip at all. but he is mad he wants me to strip he wants to keep the house because he loves it here its our home and he has grown attached to it. What do you think it best he is making me feel like crap for how i feel. I feel that we should sell the house and move into rental and save money get out of debt with the irs and I won't have to get room mates and strip cause I will be in a rental home or stay in our big house and strip to help with the bills until the economy is doing better and also get room mates. What woud you do what decision would you make

How difficult is it to get into Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) for grad school? I want to go to IIT to get my masters in Architecture. I am currently @ Florida A & M University, and majoring in Landscape Design. I expect to graduate in 2011. While reading the Graduate Admissions Requirements, it says I'd need a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution for regular admission. Students with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5/4.0 may be admitted as non-degree students. I currently have a 3.2 gpa, which is good, but I'm sure IIT's Arch program is really competitive, and I'm nervous a 3.2 won't cut it. It also reads, the GRE requirement may be waived for applicants to professional master's degree programs who hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher. I'm positive my gpa will go up after this semester. Also, if you live, have lived, in chicago, whats it like there. I'm sure its really cold in the winter time, but I'm sure I'd adapt eventually.

I need help deciding on a college Degree? I've already been to college once and withdrew from my program after I decided I did not enjoy it. I now have about 80 credit hours I can transfer into another program but because I am 30k in debt to student loans I do not want to rush into another degree I wouldn't not enjoy. Honestly, not to sound conceited, I do not think there is any program beyond my ability to complete. I took education very seriously in grade school and I am also very artistically inclined. So, here is what Interests me but I can not think of any type of career it would apply to. The bottom line is that I would love to do any type of humanitarian work that will help future generation. Urban/park development... social responsibility... something along those moral lines. I enjoy: welding, painting, working with animals of all types (land and sea), architecture, history, english, writing, TRAVELING, expeditions, designing space layouts, landscaping, building and organizing projects. anything is a huge help! In case you are wondering: my degree was a Digital media production major. In encompassed film, recording arts, webdesign, lighting, and sound.
Why We Experience Peace From Nature? This is not a question, it is an idea, tell me what you think I have recently come to realize that we humans have a deep and undeniable connection with nature. Look around your house and you will most likely find plates with fruits on them, drapes and rugs with leaves and vines, napkins and tissue boxes with flowers. Some of you probably have wood cabinets and dressers. You will find references to nature everywhere. Look out you window and you most likely have some sort of landscaping. Your family pays money to plant and maintain trees, grass, bushes, mulch, rocks, all of which are different forms of nature. Now why is this? Why do we have this connection with nature? How are we connected? Why? Initially I thought that it might be a connection with plants, and that the answer was more scientific than psychological and philosophical. I thought that since we needed plants to live, and they needed us, we had developed a sort of underlying attraction. But then I began to have second thoughts as I realized we were attracted to more than just plants. Why do some restaurants put fish tanks in their lobbies when they don’t want fish? Why do some hotels have small waterfalls, fountains, and decorative pools? Things like the ocean, clouds, the sky, the sound of insects, rain, thunder, waterfalls, fish, birds, the sun, the moon, the stars, all aspects of nature, all things we are attracted to, and have incorporated into our society and our culture. Why? Why is it that we have such an appreciation and love for the beauty of nature? From a poetic artistic approach, I would say that those things possess the one element of life we desire most, peace and harmony, that all of nature flows together seamlessly without conflict, and we envy it. Unlike us humans who seem to spread and consume everything of value, animals balance themselves. Animals never reproduce more than their environment can sustain, and they make know graduated effort to expand. Plants all function together, along with water, in perfect harmony, never in conflict with each other. Is that why we have made them such a large part of our society? From a historic approach I would say our attraction to nature is a remnant of our ancestors, who continually lived in interaction with nature, and were constantly aware of how dependent upon nature they were. I would say that today, our incorporation of nature is simply left over from past years, and in reality it is declining, as is exhibited by the large amount of deforestation, disrespect for plant life, and increased harvesting of fish and other animals. So could we say that as we progress, interaction with plants will regress? From a scientific perspective I would say that our brains have programmed us to desire nature so that we will live in close proximity with plants around us, because there are necessary for life. It is the same thing with water, we think lakes and rivers are appealing, but could that be a result of biological adaptation to insure that we seek out fresh water? These are all potential possibilities. Each theory has an essence of truth. From a philosophical standpoint, they are equally important in understanding why we need and want nature. These theories combined comprise the answer of what nature is to us. However, I thought, “What I have identified is correct, however, something is wrong, if we need nature so much, why do we destroy it? If we need it so much, how have we coped with the lack of it?” This is why nature is so prevalent in our art and architecture. Like being hungry for food, we are hungry for nature. Our brains tell us that we need it, but we have destroyed it, so what have we done to cope with this craving? We have created a pseudo nature. The brain sees the reincarnation of plants and nature in our plates, and landscaping, and drapes, and pictures, and pottery, and it fulfills our craving. This is why we feel relaxation and harmony and peace when we experience nature. We are so hungry, we have that constant irritation, but when we experience it, our hunger goes away. No longer are we struggling and fighting. We feel the flow of living with nature, of fulfilling our craving. I understand that this may be a bit confusing, because I am very tired as I write this, but I needed to write it down. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I will be happy to answer them. If you like what I have to say, ask me for my blog. Apollo Aegis, Had you read my "long bantering" you would have realized it was not a question. Ross, Ignorance is the root of all evil. There is no wrong in trying to understand.

colleges, universities? I'm looking to return to school after a number of years off. I need to complete undergraduate studies. I have a bit of dilema, I like photography a lot,at the same time I' big on theater and film as well. I've always wondered what good a film degree could give you, and I know it can open some doors, but in all honesty its still pretty tough to get in. Second photography, if done I'd want my own studio, eventually and while I don't mind working for someone else, nor what the pay is, I have a unique take and look on pictures and go againt the grain a lot the time with focus and angles, so I figure I should learn the traditional stuff and then after that I'd be able to better facilitate my unique photos. I'm big on scenic landscapes and architecture from different and sometimes odd anngles. I'm thinking I want to major in Photography and thenamybe join a film club at the university. Anyone have some good universities that have great photography programs? Any recommendations? As far as the location of the college, I'm not too concerned, I'll go where I feel I will have the best experience possible. Thanks. -AD
