Landscape Architecture Magazine Knowledge Base
What is a good interior&exterior home design magazine? My hubby & I are buying a "fixer-upper" home. What's a good magazine for ideas on both interior & exterior design (including landscaping, decks, construction, architecture, styles, flooring, kitchens, baths, etc....)?
What should my career be? I love fine detail sketching & painting, photography and fashion magazine layouts. But i also love the outdoors and don't want a job where im stuck in an office all day. I want to travel the world, be in the great outdoors (nature) but still put my artistic talents to good use. I have been interested lately in 'landscape architecture' but do you have to be super smart to study that??
Environmental Design a good career? I am currently majoring in graphic design but possibly want to get into jounalism/editorial design for magazines or newspapers but recently I have been really interested in environmental design which is landscape architecture. One class I am taking (perspective) is based on that. I find a new interest in it and I am very creative. Does anyone know more about environmental design and how much is the salary? Please only answer if you know what your taking about. Thanks!
I have a huge problem I really need some advice adults only? Hello, my husband and I have our own business. (landscape architecture) based out of our home. We have a huge house no kids yet because we plan on having that when I graduate from the ultrasound program next year. I will be an ultrasound tech. Anyways, due to the economy going down and things we are barely making ends meat. We purchased this house to have a family in a year and a half. Well, our business isn't doing so well anymore and my husband said that because I am a magazine model as well he feels that I should be an adult star like a topless high paid dancer traveling from strip club to strip club on the weekends. So I was hesitant about it and since i am in ultrasound school this would help us keep our home. Our home is 3000 a month andi can make that in 2 weeks as an adult star feature entertainer. They want to hire me at 150 an hour for 3 hours a night and i will get a check at the end of the weekend. I felt uncomfortable with this kind of was thinking yes I can do this then I felt like I didnt want to because I tired it before and my husband said he didnt like it but now he is telling me i really need to do this so we can keep our house. I told him we can move out and sell our house and rent a house and i won't have to do it and we can get caught up with the irs which we still owe 70 grand for not paying them. If we stay in this house then I will have to strip for the clubs on weekends paid hourly cause i am a magazine model but i still wont' be able to pay the irs back only the bills if I stay here. If i move out into rental home i can pay back the irs and i wont have to strip at all. but he is mad he wants me to strip he wants to keep the house because he loves it here its our home and he has grown attached to it. What do you think it best he is making me feel like crap for how i feel. I feel that we should sell the house and move into rental and save money get out of debt with the irs and I won't have to get room mates and strip cause I will be in a rental home or stay in our big house and strip to help with the bills until the economy is doing better and also get room mates. What woud you do what decision would you make
Should i switch schools? Ok, so this year I'm at this new school. I transferred there because my old school was bad and i could not see myself really learning anything. I'm in the 8th grade. My current school is AMAZING!!! the food is made right then and there so it's fresh. The teachers are very understanding and you learn from them well. The kids here are very accepting and so on. I even made the closest friends i could ever have here :).(P.s~ it's a art school) Now here's my dilemma. In the future, I could see myself doing either-- architecture, landscape architecture, or web design. I'm not completely sure which one, but I know it's one of these or related to these. And the thing is, I'm very serious about my future so I want to do everything possible to make sure I get to it(ex: going to the right college, getting the right degree, doing research, etc). And I'm wondering, to get where i want to be in life should I switch to the school down the street? Across the street, is another art school that's for Design and Architecture and they especially teach what I could see myself doing in the future. The main difference between this my current school and this school is not only they teach design & architecture(my school teach basic art like: art, music, dance, theatre, etc) but what they're known for. The other school is one of the best schools out there. They won the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. It's been in numerous magazines. 95% of the students there go to college(especially schools like yale and harvard and so on) and it's been listed as one of the top 5 best public highschools in THE UNITED STATES. That's really saying something!! And the communtiy gives the school incredible respect by letting the architecture kids design a bridge or having the fashion students enter in a serious fashion show that's public or something. :P Now the other school sounds really amazing and such but the thing is... I don't really see a problem with the school I'm at now. The only reason I'm considering transferring is because, if I go to the other school I KNOW I'll be able to reach my career with their help. But then again i pretty much live by "don't try to fix something, that isn't broken''. I don't know what to do! I'm pretty torn between schools. And also sorry for the question and thanks for anyone who actually read it. I just don't want to regret my decision.... @Sean Trust me they are definitely recognized by colleges and teach other subjects besides art(they especially have AP). more than HALF of the students there are handed scholarships to them by art colleges and other famous colleges(ringling, university of Pennsylvania, Yale, etc). this school wouldn't be one of the best in the country for no reason! But it only makes the decision harder...
Why are other countries so beautiful compared to the USA? Im am saying this from my observation as well as opinions from many people. I have looked in in several textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines, the internet, Google street view and many others. I have noticed a remarkable difference in beauty between the USA and other countries. Whenever i compare the UK with the USA the UK is just so much more physically beautiful with its rural areas and its quaint villages with cute buildings and rolling countryside in the background. Have you ever seen or been to the West country. Hampshire, Shropshire, Yorkshire Wales and Scotland? The roads are also much cleaner and smoother in the UK. Not to forget the rest of Europe like France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Norway and many others with their charming architecture and ability to keep their wonderful rural areas and neat roads as well. The countries in South America, Mexico, Asia and Africa are also extremely pretty with their large unspoilt natural areas with the variety of wonderful architecture against it. Even modern new countries like Canada (which is much closer to the USA) and Australia manage to keep their country so clean, their coastlines so fresh, their lakes so clean and have millions of acres of pure unspoilt nature. Somehow their buildings work against the background of their scenery. Have you seen a small town in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in Canada by the ocean? So much better looking than Maine in the US. The USA on the other hand despite its large size and variety of climates and landscapes looks trampled over. The roads just look wide and cracked with all the massive fuel guzzling ugly cars, the architecture is brash, modern, bland and is the same from coast to coast. The sky always looks hazy from all the pollution. The coastlines look filthy and the waterways are contaminated. The lands is also dusty and barren. The USA also just doesnt give a damn about the environment nor conservation methods.
I need some advice from a professional Landscaper who is a CEO and/or founder of their own firm? I am an 18 year old freshman college student majoring in Business Management. I plan on starting my own Landscaping Company that does anything and everything ranging from irrigation, lighting, construction, design, architecture, maintenance, water features, outdoor living spaces, and work for schools, businesses, hospitals, churches, banks, everywhere you can think of. This is my dream career, I love being outside and doing tough and dirty work. When I was younger every time I got some money I would buy me some sort of yard equipment and would look at landscaping magazines and catalogs all the time. So I have been a yard geek for as long as I can remember. I need some advice on what I should major in or take courses for along with my business classes. I am willing to do every thing I have to in order to achieve my goal. Also I need some advice on how to go about getting an internship for this summer at a landscaping company. I live in metro Atlanta (Cobb Co.). I just really want some great advice and counseling from a veteran and great landscaper like those you see on DYI/ HGTV Thanks
How to become a professional photographer or photojournalist? I'm digging around, looking into the field of photography as a potential future career. I've heard photography compared to painting and acting. It sounds like a hard field to break into, and once in tough to make a living, and unstable. If I were to do photography, I would have virtually no interest in the routine photos people take to pay the bills - weddings, models. I'm primarily interested in nature photography - landscapes and wild animals - architecture and documenting human and/or environmental controversy/plight. I'd be interested in sports if that meant documenting a rigorous man vs. nature expedition. I might be interested in the technical challenges of sports photography. I'd photograph the aftermath of natural disasters but probably not wars. How do you become a photographer? What kind of school would you go to? I already have a B.S. degree so it could be a school where you specialize - some kind of art school maybe. Other than Times magazine and National Geographic, who might I work for? How does one sell their photography if freelancing? This is one aspect I know I won't like. What is a day in the life of a photographer like? I am drawn to this field by the potential for adventure and world travel, although I do think I have some natural aptitude for photography, so if it becomes moving from one wedding to the next in my town, I won't enjoy it. What do you like most about being a photographer? What do you like least? What is the pay like? What drew you to the field? What do you think are the most important skills a photographer should have? Do you think as technology develops the field of photography will become outdated - that everyone will be able to capture a moment with their cell phone that there will no longer be a need for photographers?
Portfolio Pieces for L.A. High School? I am auditioning for Laguardia arts in the city and I really want a strong portfolio for my art audition. I just don''t know where to start! What do the judges like to see? Do they like to see perfection in drawings (to have it look like a photo), or do they want imagination? What kind of pieces (abstract, still life, portraits, figure, imagination, architecture, ceramics) are they looking for and what will they like to see? Should I use a variety of media? If so, which ones? Should I write up how I came up with each drawing? What kind of observational drawings would be interesting and more creative as well as types of pieces? I really just want to know what they're looking for and what will appeal to them and what they will appreciate and reflect what the school is about on me. also landscapes? should i mix media too? Also, should I make collages out of paper or magazines, stuff like that? mosaics?
