Do building codes affect architecture in negative ways? Building codes are to ensure the safety of structures, which is clearly important to public health, as well as upholding a key aspect of architecture in the welfare of the structure's occupants. I'm just curious as to if today's building codes negatively affect architecture in manipulating the architect's design. I'm considering pursuing architecture in college, and if building codes are a major burden to the craft, then I might not want to pursue it.
What do you think about integrating botany/plants into architecture and building design? I think it's jaw-droppingly awesome when you see the rare building with green plants growing on it. I'm not talking like some old house overrun with weeds or something, but when plants have somehow been integrated into the actual design or aesthetic of the building, whether on the roof, inside, around, or on the walls of it. Aside from any of the reasons people might come up with for why it's good for the environment yatta yatta, it just looks really awesome. Cities NEED more green, so why not use the spaces we got to grow more green stuff? Buildings can be like templates for new and weird urban foliage, a shift away from all the typical hard grays, blacks, and whites of the concrete jungle.
Would Architecture be a worthwhile career to pursue? Right now, I'm in the 8th grade and have absolutely no idea what I would want to take up as a career later in life. I've considered culinary arts since I like to cook, however, the last time I tried to cook a full meal for my family, I almost set the kitchen on fire(long story). I've also considered law, but I does seem to be a difficult and boring field. However, I have thought about architecture and building design. I am interested in this kind of thing, but is it a worthwhile career?
Is there an Xbox or Wii game that involves building or architecture and is non-violent for a 13 year old? My kid loves games where one designs and creates landscapes and buildings and Rube Goldberg-like machines. But the only thing we can find that is challenging are violent games. Halo, for instance, is great for making Goldberg-like machines, but we don't want it because he will inevitably get into the ultra-violent aspects of the game. Is there anything out there?

Interested in building design - do I take architecture at uni? I've always been very artistic and have won competitions and received high marks for art and design in highschool. For years I've been planning on studying architecture at university. I'm 18 now, so really have to start thinking about it. I was wondering whether architecture is really what I want to do, or if architecture was more the mathematical and planning side of it. I'm more interested in the aesthetics, and while I know I know it won't be all design and modeling, I don't really want to be sitting courses that are heavy in mathematics and science if I can help it. I'm not bad at maths or science, I'd definitely say that was above average, but they do bore me. Here's the school I plan on attending. It's the most accredited school in my country for architecture.http://www.creative.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/home/about/our-faculty/schools-programmes-and-centres/architecture-and-planning/ap-study-options#s3c1 Which programs do you think would be best suited for me? Or should I be taking some kind of design course instead?

What kind of architecture is an open building? Gonna try to explain this as best I can. You know certain hotels or large office buildings where you walk in, there's a lobby or some such, and it opens up to, say, an atrium with artificial ponds or trees and a restaurant, and you can look up and see all the way up to the roof, usually where a skylight is. And each floor is a balcony winding all the way around that looks over the middle. If anyone knows what I'm trying to get at here, what's the architectural term for a design like that? I'm trying to find out more about it.

Is a degree in Architecture needed to design buildings? I have been told that a versed designer can give plans to an engineer to build the design. I don't know if I believe this. Also, is it necessary to be good at math to become an architect? How much math is involved, or is it mostly geometry(still mathematical)? If I know AutoCAD would I be able to create structures that could safely be built?
What is the difference between architecture and interior designing? I like to design buildings. i.e, paint, furniture, the shape of the building etc. So which one of the two involves the above mentioned? For which do we have to study a lot? What defines buildings as Architecture? Ever since my Architecture professor introduced this question to me last semester I have been going around in circles with one of my classmates as what defines a structure/building as architecture. The general consensus from most of my Architectural Major peers is that suburban 'cookie cutter' style homes are not, and should not, be considered as Architecture. Most of the arguments against defining tract housing as architecture is that, since each individual house was not specifically designed with a specific surrounding environment and client in mind, it is not considered architecture. What they were saying was that, since the designers of the homes were not exactly putting into consideration the exact location of the house and the people who are going to be living in that particular house when they were drafting the home, it should not be considered architecture because the particular house they designed was mass produced and just scatted across on a plot of land the home building company purchased. My argument for saying tract argument is the fact that architects of large complexes like fancy hotels and skyscrapers also implement this type of thinking when they are designing their structures. For example when an architect is hired to design an office building or a Las Vegas hotel that is 40 stories high many of those levels are identical and just replicas of one general floor plan with slight variations. Just like someone who designs a large residential division in which one home design is just replicated many times over with slight variations. With this reasoning why would homes in many suburban areas not considered architecture ex. (KB, Discovery, Pulte Homes) But large complexes with many identical parts/levels are considered architecture (Empire State Building, Caesars Palace)
Is architecture a good second degree? I already have a liberal arts bachelor's degree, but it won't exactly help me in the job market these days. I've never really had much of a science or mathematics background, but I know I can prepare myself for the basic prerequisites on my own before I consider returning to college.

Scientific method in Art, Design & Architecture, how? How is the scientific method applied, or rather hypothesis tested, in subjective arts and design disciplines such as art, design and architecture. Example; the problem is how should a building be sculpted or styled in a given context? Hypothesis, gather clues from the context and formulate a thematic strategy. Then test it against known precedents for credibility and apply. The problem in creative disciplines is just this, the context or conditions are normally specific to the project and solutions creative and original. Thus, it would be counter productive and/or hard to find and use precedents. Finally, results are subjected to taste; a solution that works just fine on paper could still be rejected in practice. How should the design disciplines then be informed and should the scientific method be used at all? Please help.

Not sure if this is about architecture or not? I am only a year apart from going to an university now, and I am not sure if I really want to be an architect which I've been planning to be since Gr9. I like to draw and wouldn't mind a bit of math; but simply, I am not really insane about it. When I go to library for some books, I tend to look more for investing and finance rather than architecture. But then ever since I was a kid, I loved building houses and castles out of LEGO and draw tiny draftings of house interiors like where the washroom should be. I still love making buildings out of LEGO. So could anyone clarify what my interest really is? - architecture? interior design? or business? Thanks,

Is my idea good for being in the profession of Architecture? I am considering going into the profession of Architecture and Interior Design, because I enjoy both. What I would like to do is buy property whether there is a house there or not and knock it down. I would then like to build my own house (my design) of the structure, exterior and interior, including the furnishings and such. I will then re-sell it with optional interior furnishings and design for more money. Would this work? If so, why? If not, why not?
Do you have to be creative to do Architecture? I love the idea of building a house and designing one, but I hate making models. I was wondering if I have to be creative or good at art to do architecture?
Does anyone know of any good examples of buildings designed and built from 2000 - today? I'm doing an art essay and need examples of good modern architecture built in this decade! Thanks!
Good architecture programs with no portfolio requirement? I'm a senior and want to apply for architecture. I've always loved building/making things from Lego to Tech Design in high school. One thing that I think might set me back is my art skills/portfolio. I'm definitely not the best artist out there so I was just looking for good schools with decent architecture programs where a portfolio isn't required for admission. So far I've got U of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Institute of Technology. Anybody know of any others? Thanks
Do you like the older flicks better? The old B&W movies of yesteryear seem to possess a quality seldom seen in modern movies. What is it? Do you agree that the old movies had something that the modern ones don't? Is this merely a subjective and biased opinion, based on an element of nostalgia, or is my sentiment fairly widespread? A handy comparative analogy: old movies are to the old architecture as new movies are to the new building designs. The new buildings are more efficient and have some bells and whistles missing not seen in the old magnificent edifices. But they had so much charm. As did the old flicks.
Where can I find architecture ebooks or mags for download? I'm a student and I cant afford the real things. I've beed trying to find the German mag Detail for download, as well as some other books such as, Building skin: surface, substance and design.

Architecture? Is architecture specifically the designing of buildings, or does it also include the physics of designing the building, such as weight bearing.

Can you be able to design a building and get it sign by a licensed architect with out actually being an architect or an engineer... i mean, i think that Le corbusier didnt actually studied architecture in a University... would it be just okay to have knowledge in architecture drafting and construction?
