Contemporary Christian architecture (for people who go to church)? I'm doing a project about contemporary Christian architecture and I'd like to hear what the believers think about it: - Do you prefer the central disposition of the sacral space or the longitudinal? - Do you think the church is primarily a place to meet God or a place for the community to meet? - How do you view the changes the Second Vatican Council has made to the liturgy and liturgical space? - If you go to a church that has been built within the last ten years or so, do you like it? Do you think it fulfills the needs of the believers as well as the older churches did? Or even better? - Do you prefer churches with simple, bare interior (e.g. no Stations of the Cross on the wall, no symbols...) or a church where the whole building tells the world the message of Christianity (by statues, paintings, symbols etc.)? Any thoughts and ideas will be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
The Tower of Babel, and God's insecurity issues? In the story of the Tower of Babel, God gets all bent out of shape because the people of the world have peacefully united and are beginning to construct a massive tower that will reach to the heavens in monument. God promptly strikes them down and confuses their language (this is supposed to be the story of why everyone doesn't speak the same language) for getting so uppity, and also has the uncomfortable implication that, at the time, it was literally believed that heaven was in the clouds. The thing is, now, we not only have skyscrapers far beyond the height that any contemporary architecture would have allowed, but we routinely fly through the stratosphere, less routinely work in high orbit, and have landed on the moon multiple times. Has God changed his mind about the "no humans above x feet in altitude" thing? Has he gotten over his neuroticism over having his superiority threatened? What gives?
intelligent people to grammar check an introduction? Can you please give me some suggestions regarding the grammar & also the content of my introduction? thanks The age when Suleiman ruled the Ottoman Empire was a highly innovative and productive culture. A Contemporary view of ottoman design has since influenced the world of architecture and is greatly respected worldwide because of the engineering and classical principals of design. Ottoman architecture attributes meaning and reflects the diversity of ottoman culture and the Islamic values. Ottoman architecture was subsequently influenced by the earlier Byzantine designs, such as "Haya Sofya" in Constantinople. During the rule of Suleiman (reigned 520-66) architecture changed and evolved successfully under his patronage. Sinan was an influential architect as he considered the relationship between exterior, articulation, interior space and techniques and approaches of architectural design. Suleiman the Magnificent was enthusiastic patron of the arts and acquired vast wealth from his expanding economy. Mimar Sinan depended upon sulayman financially so he could produce architectural designs and new concepts which resulted from his experimentation. This essay will be discussing the principals of ottoman architecture such as the symbolic value of Mimar Sinans dome as well as focusing on the various structures of ottoman Islamic culture - economically, culturally, environmentally and politically.

World Classical Tamil Conference June 23-27,2010:To Tamils-Story of the Theme Song.Do You have words of praise? Theme song By Kalaingar: The Public Relations and Publicity Committee came up with the idea of the theme song for the conference to be written by me and composed by Oscar and Grammy Awards winner and film Music Director A.R.Rahman and visual CD made by leading film Director Gautham Vasudev Menon, which was successfully launched. Going from the downloads of the theme song from the internet, it is a real success and widely appreciated. The song has become very popular among people of all age groups in different strata of the society. The theme song encapsulates the contribution of Tamil literature and culture down the ages. It was indeed difficult to illustrate in a poem the glory of different classical works in various periods ranging from Sangam era to the post-Sangam period, including those of Kamban and Kalamegam. I only saw this opportunity as a boon to pay a tribute to Tamil through the anthem, but did not expect to put together a piece that brings out the sweetness of Tamil literature and its epics. Many who have listened to the anthem points to its beauty, which transcends geographical boundaries. The work brings the landmark events in the history of Tamil Nadu like the Mamallapuram and Thanjavur big temples and the Sittannavasal inscriptions in the form of an audio visual treat. The Tiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari too is featured prominently. Over 50 top-notch artists from different genres, including playback music, Carnatic, folk and Sufi have participated in this rare, special confluence. It is not often that some of the greatest playback singers such as T. M. Soundararajan, P. Suseela, leading Carnatic singers, including Aruna Sairam, T.M.Krishna, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Bombay Jayashri, noted folk and playback singer Chinna Ponnu, and other young singers such as Karthik, Shruti Haasan perform together. When they do, it is bound to sound rather special. Particularly so, when Rahman composes the music. Gautam Menon’s team not only captured visuals across the State through off-beat, aerial shots right from Kanyakumari, but also filmed a series of sequences representative of the Tamil culture and ethos. In one sequence, all performers gather by the sea, against an elegant backdrop reading “Semmozhiyaana Tamizh Mozhiyae”, which is truly exhilarating. Gautham Menon blends the visuals in such a pleasing, effortless manner. It is, indeed, a collage of voices and sounds, with masterly strokes from remarkable artists. The anthem has both a classical and contemporary appeal. It is very young and vibrant and will certainly appeal to all sections. The anthem showcases the richness of the Tamil culture through literature, the arts, our architecture and so on.
When African civilizations were building the foundations for the modern world, where were Europians? Technologies, scientific achievements, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, sports, art, written word, religion (including jewish, arabic and christian) mysteries and origins can be directly traced to ancient Nubia, zimbabwe, igbo, egyptian, khoi san, maravi etc to name but a few of ancient civilizations that had established the foundations of the modern world. Eg. Ben Stada/Ben Pandera was a Jewish mystic born of virgin birth and taught in Egypt and conducted miracles during Jesus's era. Apolonious of Tyana was a mystic who cast out demons, turned water into wine, performed other miracles. Pythagorus was taught in ancient mysteries of Nubian and Egyptian knowledge, Jesus Christ etc.... to name but a few.....Metalrology, architecture, chemistry, biology, marine sciences, navigation, Climatology, catography, geography....all these have been recorded in ancient african civilisations and hard evidence is in existence. Just Google it....the knowledge would rival if not surpass a modern PhD from Havard....my question is.. where were European civilizations when all this was happening? The oldest college to date would be that of Timbuktu....manuscripts on astronomy, law, medicine, social sciences are being preserved from ancient artifacts....African ancient knowledge is being rediscovered in modernity? My question is, do ne-gro-id people have an advanced IQ to have discovered all these things thousands of years before their contemporaries? Would this technology have advanced further without slavery, the sacking of egyptian libraries, timbuktu libraries, nubian knowledge centres etc......You all know where I am going with this don't you? Big mom, not you again?!!! amminous....Greeks, Arabs East asians had established their civilizations upon African knowledge systems which had been documented for thousands of years. I do not want to go deeply into that but you must search the truth for yourself in order to be liberated. Remember, "the one who seeks knowledge to acquire wisdom is the richest" (Old Africa proverb)
Art Direction in Need? I see a high potential in me and the ability to do whatever I want. I went to college with the intention to take as many different art courses and classes they can give. I have learnt over ten art techniques. Sculpture (Metal Workshop, Woodshop, Marble Sculpting, Set Design) Printmaking (Monotype, Woodblock, Silkscreen), Watercolour, Markmaking, Architecture, Contemporary Dance, and Filming (Experimental Films, Video, Animation). I also took many different academic courses like Psychology, Philosophy, History, Literature, Art Theory, and Education courses. This coming term I’m learning Lithograph and Adobe Illustrator. The thing that droves me was the curiosity to learn what I desire and create my imaginations with the skills I learned. Now I’m going to graduated in a few months and a thought just daunted me: what am I going to do after college? I had so much fun learning that I felt the only thing I was only good at was learning. I still have the drive to learn more. While I have thr experiences of many different art fields and a strong foundation I’m still an amateur. All my work are not at the level of aesthetic, the awesome taste or smell that my mind has yet to produces which I want to unleashed. So what is the main question? Where to focus my energy? I have limited time on this earth and I want to spent devoting it in an art field that I feel passionate for. The thing is after experiencing so many arts that I come to love all of them. Heck I still have a huge to-do-list to learn like book-binding, textile, costume design, wax painting, baking cakes, etc. Give me enough time and success will come to me but which direction? I do also have one other weakness: forgetfulness. Because I constantly jump from one art field to the next I didn’t give time to practice each style when I was in the middle of learning a new one. What ends up happening is that I forget what I learn before and become more dull without practice. Then here comes the career issue. I wasn’t taught how to get a job (interviews, phone calls, emails, letters). I don’t know even what type of job I want to do nor know which will bring out my creativity. How can I even do that if I don’t know which art field to focus on? I know is ultimately up to me to choose but a little guidance, job references, and maybe sharing your own personal experience may help me. P.S. Excuse me of my writing if it’s illegible in terms of grammar and word style. I have a disability in language and communication so words aren’t my strong points. That’s why I do art, a language that speaks to me through clarity than symbols and sound bites. Though if helps clarify further where I want to take my art I’ll share this. I realize I’m not into the whole gallery thing nor want to be famous. I want to use what I love and help people. After doing a couple performance arts where it invites the audience to participate I know I want to work with people. Art to me is evolving to the point where it can no longer be stared at but shared with instead. So I have a few ideas that I may want to teach art at hospital, maybe paint murals with non-toxic supplies to express our love to the earth, collaborate with a think-tank to do a huge art piece, or sell my work to send money to charity. The world is my playground and I intend to play in it.

Native English speakers, I need your expertise!? This is a small fragment from my motivation letter for a scholarship. The text should be the most clear, coherent and concise. Please, correct and rephrase it where you feel it is necessary. Some of the words are repeated twice (in asterisks) and I don't know how to replace them. Thanks so much! Your help is very important for me! <The architecture of Western Europe, both old and contemporary, has become my preferred area of interest. It has made a great contribution to the world’s art of building by giving origin to many major architectural styles, schools and conceptions, *many* of which were then widely adopted in Russia. I repeatedly referred to analysis of the European styles and their interpretations in Russian architecture in my research papers, and thus have developed a keen *interest* to further deepen my knowledge in the field>. Thanks a lot for the ideas! I've taken some from each answerer! =) Thanks again!

What do you think of my letter to the House of Saud? To the House of Saud, You may not realize it, but your reign over the ancient Arabian lands of Hejaz and Nejd has been in itself a truly staggering achievement. Nowhere else is there a nation that so thoroughly epitomizes contemporary Islam and Arabian culture as they are perceived throughout the rest of the world. I congratulate you for bastardizing the Islamic faith and sullying the image of the entire Arab World. I hope you feel proud of your amazing accomplishment – it certainly is something to behold. For more than two hundred years, you have presided almost continuously over the vast lands of central Arabia. Under your leadership, the heartland of Islam has been left to decay into the cultural wasteland that it is today. You tore down some of the most breathtaking monuments of Islamic architecture, in effect demolishing a piece of Arabia's rich heritage. It is curious, then, that you would call yourselves the "custodians of the two holy mosques" when Mecca and Medina are among the most atrociously unkempt establishments of the Middle Ages. It is immeasurably disheartening to watch the two holiest cities of Islam transform into a business enterprise. They are now ugly, barren places with no distinctive identities of their own, serving only as destinations for pilgrimage. Yet the damage you have caused not only encompasses the decadence of Arabian heritage, but also the radicalization of Islamic thought. During the Caliphate era, Muslims led the world in scientific innovation and social progressivism. It is thanks to Medieval Islamic scholars that we have things such as algebraic equations, mechanical clocks, anesthetics, surgical instruments, modern astronomy, methods of maintaining personal hygiene, and countless other important discoveries. For hundreds of years, the hallmark of Islam was intellectualism; today, it is fanaticism. To be fair, Muslim fundamentalists predated Saudi Arabia; every religion has devout adherents who refuse to apply analytical reasoning to their sacred texts. Nevertheless, the process of Islamic radicalization has been drastically accelerated by the House of Saud's relationship with the deeply conservative Wahhab family, whose literal interpretation of the Qur'an laid the foundation for modern-day Islamist extremism. Saudi Arabia is a backwards country where the wealthiest echelon of society lives in denial of all the social issues that plague the people below them. There are no fair trials in the desert kingdom, only secret verdicts on whether someone will be allowed to live or die. You treat your expatriates like slaves, your women like dogs, your disadvantaged people like dirt, and any religious minorities as lepers. Yours is the only nation on the planet where women are barred from driving, going to a gym, or making any decisions for themselves. Nowhere else can a man have his head publicly chopped off on the charge of sorcery, among other nonviolent offences such as homosexuality and apostasy. There's a reason the original al-Qaeda organization was primarily comprised of Saudis, and it's no coincidence that radical theocrats like the Taliban, al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, and the Islamic State of Iraq are closely aligned with them. Their ideology was originally bred in Saudi Arabia, and continues to be perpetuated by Saudi donors. Indeed, the royal family has allowed al-Qaeda to extort funds from the Saudi national treasury, cowering away from the Islamist scourge facilitated by the House of Saud itself. Again, I congratulate you for all your astonishing achievements. It never ceases to amaze me how one family can be such a blight on humanity, yet somehow you've managed to defy all logic and maintain a regime of political repression and social stagnation. Saudi Arabia is nothing more than a totalitarian theocracy where the ruling family legitimizes its continued rule through flaunting its Islamic identity and inciting sectarian tensions. You are the foremost reason why the Middle East has yet to find peace and equality, and it is truly a shame that the West is willing to prop up such a vile regime for the sake of retaining access to the vast petroleum reserves of the Persian Gulf. I hope you're proud of yourselves. Sincerely yours, The Fiend

Who is Cecelia Lee the Marketing Director of HOK office in Beijing? Cecelia Lee Ms. Xiaoxi Li is a Director located in Beijing, China of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (”HOK“), the U.S.-headquartered architecture, interior design, engineering, planning and consulting firm. Known to the Western World as Cecilia Lee was born in the Northern part of China in 1969 under the name Xiaoxi Li. Cecilia Lee has routinely engaged in questionable, evasive and deceptive legal tactics; when she was persecuted in US court for crimes and for corrupt practices she did not show up in person in court, event not once or stepped on American soil, she was fearful of being arrested. Cecelia Lee claims that she has obtained Master Degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management (“Thunderbird”), a private business school in the United States, and the first and oldest graduate school specializing in international management and global business and another Master from Arizona State University. When she was challenged in court to produce proof of high education, she did not have any information that can support such claims. In fact, pursuant to an order of the court by which the subpoena was issued to Thunderbird School of Global Management for an order to compel the production documentations relating to Lee’s educational background, Thunderbird response dated to July 10, 2008 indicates that once upon a time in America Cecilia Lee has taken total of 15 curses of prerequisite-classes. Moreover, when she was challenged to prove fraudulent health related claims during pre-trial court hearings, Cecelia Lee provided the court with fraudulent medical records that she obtained by bribing hospital officials in China. Since 2005 Cecelia Lee facing civil charges in the United States of America on attempt to murder, make false statements, and commit perjury; false statements (2 counts); libelous posting of slanderous articles, abduction, and grand theft crime, just to name a few and in a way of example. Her trail dates not set as yet. In 2009 the 40-years-old Cecilia Lee started to prepare for her new cyber crime adventure and she recruited the 20-years-old John Travis Flynn who also known to the public as J. T. Flynn to act as her proxy to execute the “perfect cyber crime” with the help of the 60-years-old photographer, Lou Juaneza, the President of Westhoff Studios. Historical criminology has described the underworld role of Fagin-an adult who forces, seduces or teaches minors to commit crimes for him. In contemporary debates, it is sometimes feared that adolescents cunningly evade criminal law by recruiting younger children to commit offences for them. Cecilia Lee is old enough to be Flynn’s mother and Lou Juaneza, the President of Westhoff Studios, is old enough to be Flynn’s grandmother or perhaps Flynn is young enough to be Lou’s grandchild.

Please tell me what you think about this painting and the its description below. Thanks for you time!? Click on the link below to view the painting and then read the description... Are the sentences connected logically? (http://img37.imageshack.us/i/imag0374h.jpg/) This work contains a collection of symbolic elements that have had a significant effect on my life in one way or another. Some of these symbols represent values held in common by most people as they cope with this global situation that we live in today, while other symbols represent personal values that I grew up with. Some of the symbols might just be a materialization of some sort of Utopian dream that I am trying to live in order to make my life better or to help me accept reality as it is. I will start with my favorite symbol, which is the suspension bridge. My fascination with suspension bridges began at early age when I fell in love with their aesthetics. I was especially fascinated by the shape and color of the Golden Gate Bridge. This fascination is hard to explain, but it is linked to my love for the art of architecture, and that is the reason for the setting that I chose, which is a room with two tables, a painting, a mirror, and a balcony. I chose the suspension bridge to be seen from the balcony because it has always been my dream to live in San Francisco, in a room overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. The second symbol that I find to be unique and interesting is in the painting on the right, which depicts a woman tight-roping near the sea. This picture is the work of the brilliant contemporary artist Janine Antoni , who practiced tight roping at one point in her life and who produced this striking piece of work, showing herself walking on the horizon. In the documentary "Art:21," produced by the PBS, Antoni says: “I practiced tight roping for about an hour a day, and after about a week I started to feel like I’m now getting my balance. I started to notice that it wasn’t that I was getting more balanced, but that I was getting more comfortable with being out of balance. Rather than getting nerves and over compensating that I could just compensate enough, and I thought I wish I could do that in my life.”1 Her deep and thoughtful words moved me as soon as I saw the picture and I started to think about how she took a basic practice, like tight roping, and turned it into a mechanism through which she learned how to cope with her everyday routine. Antoni shot this beautiful picture of herself “walking on the horizon” in the Bahamas, where she grew up. I find her work fascinating, novel, and very thoughtful. It is interesting how some of us dream and how our utopian mind flies us from the land of the impossible to the land of the possible. It would be interesting if I could hang this picture in my room to remind myself that there is more to life than the narrow tube that I see life though sometimes. The third symbol is the peace symbol, which is a physical representation that I borrowed to materialize my desire to peacefully accept everyone and respect the world around me with its juxtaposition of beauty and ugliness. It signifies my childish cry to the world, asking it to accept me, or perhaps to just give me a chance, regardless of all the genetic flaws that I was born with that give me a different personality that is not well-perceived by everyone around me. The peace symbol, in my humble opinion, summarizes all the beautiful dreams that John Lennon imagined in his song, Imagine. Fourth is the anarchy symbol which also represents my childish protest against all the religious and political ideologies I was brought up to believe in or respect, even when they made no sense to me. I was born a free soul and I want to die a free soul, with no religious beliefs or political ideologies imposed upon me culturally. I put this symbol beside the peace symbol because to me they resonate together; you cannot ask for peace if you are not ready to rebel or rise above the rusty ideas with which you were raised. I placed the anarchy and peace symbols inside the flowers because to me they are ideas that flourish worldwide. The fifth symbol is the cat, which represents my desire to save an animal soul and give it a place in this world that we selfishly built only for ourselves, leaving little or no space in which other animals could enjoy their rights on Earth. For the last century the human population has been increasing exponentially, expanding into every inhabitable piece of land and destroying nature and earth. We humans have forgotten that not only buildings and cities build civilizations; our respect for the rights of animals and the beauty of nature can build the greatest of civilizations. I believe that man is obligated to save nature and its component parts, of which animals are an essential ingredient. The sixth symbol is the mirror on the left side. The mirror represents my struggle to attain perfection. A mirror plays a major part in the life of a person seeking physical perfection. This might not be what I am seeking, but I use
Would you consider me "old-fashioned"? Well at 15, I'm obviously surrounded by other teenagers my age and I can't help but wonder how different I am from the rest of them. Firstly, I have major interests in Art, Architecture and Literature. There is not a day when I don't admire the beauty of the world, the talent shown by artists in their artworks and where I don't escape reality in books. I'm currently reading 5 books at once ("With The Old Breed", "Helmet For My Pillow", "The Pacific", "It's Not About The Bike" and "The Great Gatsby") but after I read all 5 I plan to sink in to classics. I read differently from others as I seem to admire writing, character constructions, use of imagery, choice of diction and etc. But I also have read modern novels such as "Twilight", "Harry Potter" and the "Private Series". With music I enjoy what sounds good. But I try to sink in to tunes of alternative bands and bands like "The Beatles", "Vampire Weekend", "Death Cab For Cutie", "Paramore" and much more. Although I keep in touch with contemporary society by listening to "Lady GaGa", "Muse", "Glee" and more at times. I don't like what is overrated like Justin Bieber and I try to be unique in my tastes. With films and television I try very hard to analyse characters, directors portrayals of aspects, performances and much more but I usually just watch what I find entertaining. I like to keep in touch with Current Affairs. I watch the news and I'm 100% positive that I'm the only student at my school that actually reads the newspaper in the library. And with my style, I used to have modern hair but with my recent interests in the 1940s, I have a 1940s hairstyle with simple combing. I'm very stylish and fashionable but simple. I value simple traditions as technology brings me to fear how society will change. I view the world differently as I am VERY self-conscious. I am mature for my age and mature enough to know not to get into any dating until I know I'm mature enough in my twenties and right now I'm focussing on my studies and facing what other teenagers face. So what are your comments? Am I old-fashioned or something else? Thanks. :) So far, nice and very friendly answers! :) Keep opinions coming! Thanks!
