Contemporary Architects Knowledge Base

Does anyone know any post-contemporary architects/architecture? I have a theory of architecture class and I've presented modern, post-modern, and contemporary architects and their work of architecture. But I can't find anything on post-contemporary architecture. There is nothing on the internet that mentions anything about it. Is post-contemporary just present-day stuff?
Which contemporary architect was influenced by Pierre Koenig? Pierre Koenig is the architect of the Stahl House (Case Study House #22), the most photographed house in the world... if I'm not mistaken it has also been in the most movies. I need to know WHO was influenced by Koenig.
What are the most useful and exciting contemporary architecture theories? Many architects and academics tend to cloud their ideas with lingo like "archademics", "verticalization", etc. Gone are the days when architects like Le Corbusier expressed themselves clearly and precisely, unafraid of criticism by letting people understand what they are doing. When architects do explain their works clearly, they disappoint most times, gravitating towards personal explorations that tend to do little to improve the lives of most people. What are the most useful and exciting theories that drive the best architects these days then, if any?
Does anyone know of any examples of architects in literature? I'm doing something for school, and I was wondering if anyone could think of any architects that appear in prominent classics or contemporary works. Here's what I have so far: Howard Roark- The Fountainhead (Rand) Robert Faehmal- Billiards at Half Past Nine (Boll) Arnold Rubek- When We Dead Awaken (Ibsen) Thanks

The Venice Biennale is organised around a particular theme.? The Venice Biennale is organised around a particular theme. In 1980, the Venice Biennale was organized by Paolo Portogeshi, who wanted to concentrate the attention on the revival (by contemporary architects) of an interest in history and tradition. The theme, (in English) consisted of five phrase. What was it?
What are four good examples of buildings that would help in choosing a deisgn for a museum? You are a member of and advisory board who answers to a public figure; someone who is in control of, and makes decisions concerning the architectural development of the city where you reside. It has been established that there is a need for a new museum to house the historic art and artifacts of the city and surrounding region. You have been given the responsibility to begin the search for the appropriate architect as well as inform the said public figure of the reasons why a particular architect/architecture is suitable for the charge of the museum. Your research begins with understanding historical models for museums and similar institutions. In your paper you must select four examples that programmatically fit your idea of “museum” and explain why you have chosen these buildings (note that the chosen buildings do not necessarily need to be museums). You must then present your findings to the board for review. It is your responsibility to explain why these models are good precedents, and then you must explain why, even though these where suitable at the time, they may not be suitable now. Also, you must reference four contemporary museums that you feel are appropriate in order to foster a connective historical understanding of your choices to your audience: the board. Essentially, you will be selecting buildings that can perform as a museum “type.” You will explain the positive, and potentially negative, attributes of the building as an historic model. The selection of the contemporary – modern – buildings is to reinforce both positive and negative elements. Remember, in the end, you are not selecting a “building.” You are educating a group of people in order for them to make the appropriate decisions on hiring an architect. You will not suggest an architect. The ideas in your paper are general. You should use thoughts discussed in the lectures as well as your individual research. Remember that notions of program, formal design, materials, structure and contemporary ideas are all constituents that should be used in your paper. Any suggestions?

What topics would you like to see in a book about steel houses? Have been asked by high-end book publisher to submit a proposal. They've accepted my topic: contemporary steel houses, and my full pitch is due in one week. I want to feature architect steel houses but with proviso they don't exceed 2,000 square feet and are relatively low cost. Underlying theme will be looking at the economics of housing in US and the push towards using steel shipping containers. I will not be looking at many of the prefabs being touted around because most of them including Adam Kalkins are ridiculously expensive and anyway have been over-exposed in press already. I'm also looking at issues of embodied energy because it's not so simple as saying "wood good" and "steel bad". I want this book to be an inspiration and resource for those of us (yes me included) priced out of market or who want to re-examine our thinking about sustainability.

Contemporary comedic monologue needed. Audition tomorrow.... FREAKING OUT!? I have an audition for a part in Larry Shue's The Foreigner tomorrow night at 7. I need a contemporary comedic monologue for it. About two minutes long. I found one from Shue's other play The Nerd, but I'm not sure if its appropriate. Here's the one I'm planning on using: Willium is an architect who's life has been imposed upon by Ric, The Nerd, who just so happened to save Willium's life during Vietnam. "WILLIUM: Six days. Has it been just six days? To think, a week ago, the day before my birthday...Tansy was leaving. My hotel design was getting rejected and rejected. I found out I was getting audited by the IRS. He follows me everywhere you know. He seems to have unlimited time... unlimited funds. I guess he takes an iterest in my work. He goes with me into town. Just last week.... I'm not sure if I can talk about this yet. Just last week, I had to take the commute into St. Louis. That's where the outside elevator the the Regency is being built. Ric wanted to come along. So, I said "Ok, but it probably isn't going to be much fun." So Ric came along, everything was fine. He was sitting next to me on the plane.... the DC 8 I think. He's wearing this pilot's hat he bought at the airport and leafing through his bound copy of Redbook and suddenly, the plane starts shaking and the safety belt lights come on and in fact, people are starting to get a little alarmed, and what does Ric do in the middle of all this? He jumps up and shouts "Urinate! Urinate before your kidneys explode!" and, I think, actually I'm pretty sure some people actually did. And he was wearing this little pilot's hat and that shirt and tie he always wears. And in a panicked situation like that... well naturally the next thing we heard was the pilot's voice saying, "We experienced a little turbulence back there, but we're out of it now and we'll be arriving in St. Louis in one minute. So, Ric just sits down, with no idea of how many people want to murder him. I think the only reason he really escaped is becaus those who really had the grounds, didn't want to stand up." - Larry Shue I don't know if this is appropriate, Larry Shue has a very specific comedic style and I dont know if this fits. So, suggestions? HELP! lol.
Landscape Architecture Works in Japan? I am in Japan for a few weeks. I used to live here so I have seen the Kyoto gardens and the usual Japanese garden stuff. However, I am now a student in landscape architecture and I would like to explore more of the contemporary/recent designs here in Japan. Does anyone know of any designed specifically by lanscape architects or land artists in the Tokyo, Saitama, or Kyushu areas?
Does anyone still apreciate historical/ancient architecture? I have always loved architecture, specifically old and historical buildings/palaces/churches/homes. Sure, the contemporary homes are nice, but its not what I'd prefer. I want to be an architect. I was wondering if others appreciate historical monuments/architecture as much as I do? I recently learned that aparantly London will be tearing down some of its historical buildings to build more modern/contemporary buildings. I was shocked, London is such a beautiful city I cant stand to see its old charm dissapear.

I will to add some sort of red tiles as backs plash between the counter and cabinets (like here http://www.houzz.com/photos/34865/christian-rice-architects--inc--contemporary-kitchen-san-diego , though it will not be this bold red ). I need help picking a kitchen cabinet paint color that will bring light and space to the kitchen and will go with everything else. Thanks. Will it be weird if I paint the wall the same color as the cabinets? And suggest different color tiles that you think would be better.

Who said/wrote this? ? It appears that we have reached the edge, that zenith where stimuli and comatose collide. 40 years ago, the man proclaimed the Age of the Gross to be upon us, and war through the man was destroyed; in out heritage and insulting our intelligence, THAT ERA HAS BECOME VERY REAL. We labor for pleasure and abhor the guilt of pressure. My generation will go down as the Architects of Contemporary Disgust. Read this and please tell me what you think.? It appears we have reached the edge. Society is running down mankind. There has NOT been one been one point in life were mankind actually exsisted. I myself, am beleagured, by the selfish face, of a kind of man, that is NOT mankind. I am disgusted by 2009's mankind. People take advantage of every moment they can in life. Advantage is rage. Where is the glory? Where is your glory? Where is the world's glory? The agony of the government, politicians, and society, sickens me into my deepest gut. The age of man has been filled with cynicism. The agony of cynicism beckons me. The face of the earth has been scarred by society, and NOT mankind. People have faught and died for there freedom, others took advantage. And that advantage made mankind VERY UNREAL. Therefore, mankind had never exsisted. My Generation will go down as the Architects of Contemporary Disgust. Distrust in information - Fundamentalism of Opinion - Catastrophic Boredom, and a Fanatical Devotion to that which DOES NOT MATTER. Mankind is not real, and you can't make it real. Politics Society Goverment People And the mask of the so called "mankind", all made this world a very fucked up place. Where is your Glory now, people? Where are your Gods and politicians? Where is your Shame and Salvation? All your lies are coming true.

intelligent people to grammar check an introduction? Can you please give me some suggestions regarding the grammar & also the content of my introduction? thanks The age when Suleiman ruled the Ottoman Empire was a highly innovative and productive culture. A Contemporary view of ottoman design has since influenced the world of architecture and is greatly respected worldwide because of the engineering and classical principals of design. Ottoman architecture attributes meaning and reflects the diversity of ottoman culture and the Islamic values. Ottoman architecture was subsequently influenced by the earlier Byzantine designs, such as "Haya Sofya" in Constantinople. During the rule of Suleiman (reigned 520-66) architecture changed and evolved successfully under his patronage. Sinan was an influential architect as he considered the relationship between exterior, articulation, interior space and techniques and approaches of architectural design. Suleiman the Magnificent was enthusiastic patron of the arts and acquired vast wealth from his expanding economy. Mimar Sinan depended upon sulayman financially so he could produce architectural designs and new concepts which resulted from his experimentation. This essay will be discussing the principals of ottoman architecture such as the symbolic value of Mimar Sinans dome as well as focusing on the various structures of ottoman Islamic culture - economically, culturally, environmentally and politically.
Can you help me? I have a painting of his. Rock cliff ser.2? Gary Adcock was born in New York City in 1950. He is a licensed architect having practiced professionally for nearly thirty years. After eight years in Tokyo as President of a successful architectural firm, Gary chose to realize his life-long passion for studying the drawing and painting of the Old Italian masters, and completed full training at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Since then, he successfully pursues his career as a painter of still life, the Italian landscape and portraiture. He paints these subjects in refined, elegant, “old world” craftsmanship with the emotional breadth of contemporary realism. In his Studio de’Macci in Florence he gives private instruction in this genre to serious students from the world over. Gary also teaches at The Florence Academy of Art during the summer workshops. His work is in private collections. I'm trying to find the other paintings of this collection.

Native English speakers, I need your expertise!? This is a fragment from my motivation letter for a scholarship. It has come out too long and wordy. Please, help me to rephrase something to make the text more concise and clear. Grammar and style corrections are welcome as well. It should be at least 1/3 shorter than it is now. Thank you very very much! <During my studies in the Netherlands I hope to more closely examine Dutch art and architecture, and concentrate specifically on the problem of Dutch-Russian interaction and mutual influence in architecture. I became particularly fascinated by Dutch art and culture after studying it within some of my undergraduate courses, and especially after seeing rich collections of Dutch painting in the major Russian museums. Dutch-Russian communication in the field of architecture has had a long-term history and been very fruitful for Russian culture. This is evident by numerous buildings designed in the style of Dutch Baroque, which I had chance to examine in St. Petersburg in Russia. Furthermore, Dutch and Russian architects are actively sharing experience in contemporary practice, being involved in joint work on various projects. The history of these Dutch-Russian architectural exchanges is a fertile field for academic research and I believe requires special attention>.

R&S: Where are all these alleged records, kept by the Romans who were "compulsive record keepers?"? And I'd also like to ask why people do not understand that there is a different standard of validity and reliability when applied to ancient people and ancient documents? Someone just asked where the contemporary records of Jesus were, because the Romans were "compulsive record keepers." But they weren't! You'd think there would be contemporary accounts of the destruction of Pompeii, but the earliest written account was 25 years after the fact. Where are the records of the names of all the citizens living in Rome at the time of Jesus? Where are all the records of the government expenses? Where are all the records of immigrants to the Roman empire, or the names of all the slaves therein? Where are all the records of taxes paid to the Roman government? Where are all the records of the names of all the gladiators who ever fought in the Coloseum (there are a few names which survived)? Where are all the records of the names of ALL the amazing architects who built the ancient city of Rome? Where are all the compulsively kept records of the names of the people living in the outlying areas of the Roman empire? Where are all the records of the names of each and every person that the Roman government imprisoned or killed? I await with anticipation the location or even historical mention of the above historical records. Thank you for your assistance. _________ Thank you very much. _____ Of course, Pliny the Elder was NOT living in Palestine, and he didn't write about everyone living in the Roman empire did he? You have to make a huge leap of inference that he *would* have written about Jesus, because you would have had to assume he heard about Jesus through the rumor mill. Plus -- what other "famous" people did Pliny NOT write about? Why don't you list all the famous people he did write about, and I guess we'll rule out all the rest of the prominent people of his day that we know existed but Pliny failed to mention? Your argument simply doesn't hold water, I'm sorry. ___________ Exactly so, John the Baptist! _________ tebone that's a good point -- so then we could also surmise that if records have been lost, there's really no way to say there were no contemporary record of Jesus, as IT may also have been lost. The naysayers just can't win on this one, can they? _____________ There are also not any contemporary records of Alexander the Great, and many other historical people, including MOST of our ancestors, yet we know that they existed, don't we? By the standards applied to ancient documents and people, Jesus was the most documented person of his day.

New Motherwell College? Has anyone else in Lanarkshire seen the "artist impression" of the the new college? For god's sake, the architect who designed the "towers" and the Civic buildings should now be ashamed. Once again, it will be embarrassing in 20 years. "Contemporary" sometimes does not stand the test of architectural time.

How can I become a dance teacher? I have just turned 17, and about two years ago I decided that I would like to take dance up as a career. I have always been the creative type and up until I decided to take up dance I was going to become an architect. Anyway, so far I have done jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and acro. Of course I would not be able to become a teacher soon as I have only been doing it for about two years, so I would hope to work within the performance side of dance for a couple of years before becoming a teacher. Does anyone know how i would go about doing this??
Do you think that if genetic engineering existed 5000 years ago, "god" would have banned it? Why do you think he didn't? better yet, would didn't he ban abortion? After all surgical abortion existed in ancient Persia even before the time of Zoroaster (the architect of monotheism) so god would have known about it in a contemporary context. Why didn't he specifically mention it among his ramblings? Wow I've been an R&Ser since 2007 and n00b atheists still answer every question with smarmy kneejerk quips like "WELLLLL DUUUUUHHHHH!" some things never change (memories..... light the corners of my mind....) Oh I forgot about the obligatory substance free ad hominem from stumped theists. "Why doesn't god heal amputees?" "cause F**K YOU that's why!" thanks for reminding me Rick

What was the most influential spaniard in the history? I think it is one of these: - Cervantes: His magnum opus, Don Quixote, often considered the first modern novel, is a classic of Western literature and is regularly regarded among the best novels ever written. His work is considered among the most important in all of literature. - Isabel the Catholic: A key character in completing the Reconquista, establishing the Spanish Inquisition and sponsoring Christopher Columbus' voyages that led to the discovery of America, laying the foundations of modern Spain and the Spanish Empire. - Pablo Picasso: He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Guernica. - Francisco Franco: He was a dictator of Spain. The most common ideological features present throughout included a strong sense of Spanish nationalism and protection of the country's territorial integrity, Catholicism, and "traditional values". - Francisco de Goya: He was a Spanish painter. The subversive and subjective element in his art, as well as his bold handling of paint, provided a model for the work of later generations of artists. - Santiago Ramón y Cajal: His pioneering investigations of the microscopic structure of the brain were so original and influential that he is considered by many to be the greatest neuroscientist of all time. - Diego Velazquez: He was an individualistic artist of the contemporary baroque period, important as a portrait artist. In addition to numerous renditions of scenes of historical and cultural significance, culminating in the production of his masterpiece Las Meninas - The Cid: He was a Castilian nobleman, a military leader and diplomat who, after being exiled, conquered and governed the city of Valencia. - Hernán Cortés: He was a Spanish conqueror who led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec empire and brought large portions of mainland Mexico under the King of Castile. - Antoni Gaudí: He was a Catalan architect who belonged to the Modernist style (Art Nouveau) movement and was famous for his unique and highly individualistic designs.

Can you help me with my paper? I have to do a presentation for 2:30 and I have no idea what to put in. I wrote a little bit, but not sure what else to write. Can you please help me??? It's for music and you basically have to talk about an artist (I have James Brown). Here's what I have SO far: James Brown, also known as “the Godfather of Soul,” was born May 3, 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina. His music career started in 1956 and rose to fame in the late 50s and early 60s. Brown's early recordings were fairly straightforward gospel-inspired R&B compositions, heavily influenced by the work of contemporary musicians such as Ray Charles and Little Richard. Brown scored on the charts in the early 1960s with recordings such as his 1962 cover of "Night Train." He contributed to music in a number of ways. He is considered to be the primary architect of funk music, he was a major force in transforming R&B music into soul, and is considered one of soul music's greatest all-time vocalists.

(Re-posted) Is this personal statement okay..? please read.? My first memory of enjoying art and design was from a young age, as I had won an art box set for Best Sketchbook, in year 2003. Also achieving first place in a Rangoli competition, I feel my drawing and designing skills have grown from this. I have always been interested in making and creating new things by using scrap materials, different mediums, textures and colours. Over the years, I have become more independent with my work and thoughts, which I gained throughout my A-levels. I have wanted to pursue a career in interior architecture for a while now and am eager to express and explore it through university. The possible chance to shape, life style and surroundings, is incredible. Interior architect being a unique subject; it fascinated me that the environment we live in is enjoyed by people on an everyday-basis. I recently took on some voluntary work experience, which amongst other features involved an element of interior work. This encouraged me to be creative and do first-hand decision making for layouts, themes and furnishings, and being responsive to their needs. Currently doing a foundation diploma, I have gained more independence with my work and ideas, as well as broadening my mind about the use of materials by being more experimental. Slowly beginning to push the creativity side of me, it has expanded the way my mind works and thinks, in terms of analysing and reflecting on my own creations. Interior architecture is not only having a skill but also a combination of creativity and imagination, which I think many designers have such as Rachel Ashwell that I aspire to be like. Whilst being in America this summer, I had come across Mint Museum of Art situated in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was filled with a range of art from ancient, contemporary to decorative textile and sculptures. The artwork was from broad variety of cultures, and I personally had enjoyed the insights of ethnicity, which was portrayed through the work. Recently visiting an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, I found the sketches and insight of architectural work done by Sir Nickolas Grimshaw, very interesting. I admire the thought process and amount of detail included in his developments, which for me shows the connection between problem solving and originality. Also visiting Anish Kapoor’s gallery in London, I was amazed at the artwork, because it was so neat and expressive. I find when observing the sculptures, it makes the mind work in a different way due to it being surreal and attractive. I want to study interior architecture because, I am intrigued by the opportunity to explore and learn, which can allow me to be expressive and development my strengths. I feel enthusiastic about designing and making, so being a hardworking person, I am open to challenges. I believe overcoming challenges can only further improve minds, and increase the ability to expand our thinking. Therefore I am eager about the prospect of working with others, to see how their interpretations and aspirations vary from my own; as well as gain an insight and inspiration from contrasting works.

Is this essay (bio) a good please help i really need the 100 points for my classes.? its was double lined. fitted in 1 page. Leonardo da Vinci birth name is Leonardo di Ser Piero. He was born April 15, 1452 at the third hour of the night. He was born in Vinci in the region of Florence in the Tuscan hills. His nationality is Italian. The name "Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci" means "Leonardo, son of piero, from vinci" He has been a lot of things such as becoming an Italian polymath, a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and a writer. He’s like one of the greasiest painters of record and maybe even the bestest painter who has ever lived. He was thought, by some, to have been educated by his father. He was apprenticed to a painter when he was fourteen years old and became a Master artist at twentry. Leonardo was one of the most important Renaissance painters and contributed to the Humanistic turn in art and culture. Together with other Renaissance artists and writers, Leonardo helped to move European culture out of the Middle Ages. Leonardo's importance is probably more a creation of historians than as it was to his peers and contemporaries. But his importance for us is largely in the way he helps us define a Renaissance Man, someone who is talented in many fields. Leonardo's inventions included innovations in weaponry, anatomy, as well as theoretical inventions in engineering including bridges, Hang-gliders, a helicopter, and musical instruments. He is recognized for too paintings such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. His famous drawing would have to be the “Vitruvian Man”. Leonardo then spent his life in Amboise Leonardo lived in a castle next to the king. In France Leonardo didn't paint, but he made hydrological studies. So the king of France requested Leonardo to come work for him. Being 67 years old, Leonardo died May 2, 1519 in Amboise.

Is vertical farming is necessary in future ? Vertical farming is a concept that argues that it is economically and environmentally viable to cultivate plant or animal life within skyscrapers, or on vertically inclined surfaces. Despite contemporary notions of vertical faming, there is a long history of 'vertical farming' that can be divided into three categories. 1) The phrase 'vertical farming' was coined by Gilbert Ellis Bailey in 1915. In his nearly forgotten book 'Vertical Farming', Bailey defined the earliest meanings and methods of 'vertical farming': “"Vertical Farming", to coin a name, is the keynote of a new agriculture that has come to stay, for inexpensive explosives enable the farmer to farm deeper, to go down to increase his acreage, and to secure larger crops. Instead of spreading out over more land he concentrates on less land and becomes an intensive rather than an extensive agriculturist, and soon learns that it is more profitable to double the depth of his fertile land than to double the area of his holdings, and he learns that his best aid and servant in this work is a good explosive. Peace congresses demand that swords be turned into pruning hooks. The farmer is busy turning explosives from war to agriculture, from death dealing to life giving work.[1] ” 2) The second category of vertical farming falls under the concepts proposed and built by architect Ken Yeang developed at least ten years before Despommier. Yeang proposes that instead of hermetically sealed mass produced agriculture that plant life should be cultivated within open air, mixed-use skyscrapers for climate control and consumption (i.e. a personal or communal planting space as per the needs of the individual). This version of vertical farming is based upon personal or community use rather than the wholesale production and distribution plant and animal life that aspires to feed an entire city. It thus requires less of an initial investment than Despommier's 'The Vertical Farm'. However, neither Despommier nor Yeang are the conceptual 'originators', as seen in the following section. As seen in the 'history' section of this article, Yeang was not the inventor of 'vertical farming' in skyscrapers either. 3) The third category 'vertical farming' was made by American ecologist Dr. Dickson Despommier. Despommier argues that 'vertical farming' is legitimate due to environmental reasons. He claims that the cultivation of plant and animal life within skyscrapers will produce less embedded energy and toxicity than plant and animal life produced on natural landscapes. He moreover claims that natural landscapes are too toxic for natural, agricultural production, despite the ecological and environmental costs of extracting materials to build skyscrapers for the simple purpose of agricultural production.

What's your favorite quote you live by? There are many many quotes being exchanged. As I left school, my teacher left me with "To make the most out of life, do something to outlast it." He's an architect and creates modern furniture for contemporary homes so his work will be up for many years to come. Give me some good ones, and tell me which one you live by?
URGENT ESSAY HELP! THANKYOU!? Im in year 11 and our visual arts essay is due tomorrow. The question is "Artists and architects often derive inspiration from the natural environment. Examine the ways historical and contemporary artists refer to the land in their artmaking." It is meant to be 1500 words. I currently only have about 1000. Can you please proof read it and make any spelling grammar corrections and give me some tips on what else i could write?? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!! MY ESSAY: Artists and Architects have been drawing inspiration from the environment for their works for many years. The natural environment has influenced the works or artists such as historical artist, Frederic McCubbin, whose paintings all represent the beautiful, yet harsh and dangerous Australian bushland, Contemporary artist Jackie Brookner whose artworks show her passion for restoring the natural ecosystem and Andy Goldsworthy, a talented artist who creates ephemeral artworks from items he finds in the natural environment. All three of the artists strongly show their reaction to the environment around them. Frederick McCubbin concentrates on the fine details of the Australian bushland. The works seem to be portraying the dangers of the dense Australian bushland. This message is strongly displayed in his well known painting ‘Lost’/ In this work “McCubbin contrasts the image of a lone child against the enticing, but seemingly treacherous, beauty of the Australian bushland.” (‘Australian ArtLook’, P. 183, J.Aland & M, Darby, 1997). In this painting, instead of a large blue sky, McCubbin uses a canopy of branches and foliage. He frames the girl with gum trees and high grasses, thus making clear his original message that the Australian bush, although seemingly beautiful, is full of hidden dangers. McCubbin’s passion for the Australian bush is evident in his choice of colours. When his works are compared to a European painting of the same time we see that McCubbin chose to reflect the true personality of the Australian bush. McCubbin uses layers of colour in the background of his paintings and the colours and details he uses in the foreground are true to the Australian landscape. The subject in the painting lost has been represented as a rather small person compared to the large, dense Australian bushland, Which takes on such a monumental scale. This strategy is very much like traditional Chinese paintings like ‘Landscape in Moonlight’ by Ma Yuan, 1200 AD (The story of Art. E.H. GOMBRICH, 1984. P. 109). In both os these paintings, although the subjects may be the people or person they are extremely small compared to the environment in which they are situated. This represents the importance of the natural environment to the artist. The target audience of this painting would need to understand the true dangers and beauty of the Australian bushland in order to be able to understand this Artwork. The colours and details in Australian works of this kind are much more complex than many European landscape paintings. When creating his artwork ‘Lost’, McCubbin’s intentions were to show his target audience the natural Australian environment in its true state, making clear the obvious dangers of the alluring and beautiful Australian bush. Jackie Brookner is an environmental artist whose passion is to create living, working ecosystems. “My commitment is to revitalize ecosystems while providing pleasure and raising awareness that the vitality of any community and the continuity of its cultural heritage depends upon the health of the natural world that embraces it.” (Jackie Brookner [online], http://www.greenmuseum.org/content/artist_index/artist_id-57.html, 30 June 2009). Brookner creates plant or water based biosculptures that filter and clean polluted water. She creates these artworks in an attempt to raise awareness of the importance of restoring the ecosystems to its original state. Brookner’s ‘Prima Lingua’ (made of concrete, volcanic rock, mosses, ferns, wetland plans, fish, steel, rubber liner, tubing and pumps) is an extremely large tongue that is ‘licking’ the polluted water that it stands in. Brookner used mosses, liverworts and many other plants that help clean and filter air and water. “The piece is a visible image of transformation, revealing decay as part of creation” (http://www.jackiebrookner.net/prima_lingua.htm, 5 July 2009) Prima Lingua is an attempt to stop pollution of natural ecosystems and in creating this work Brookner shows her passion for the revitalization of the natural environment. Brookner’s artworks are created for purposes other than to make money from exhibitions. She works with ecologists, design professionals and the community to create water remediation projects in the forms of artworks. These artworks are meant to demonstrate the under appreciated aquatic resources like stormwater. In 2000 Brookner created ‘I’m You’ a biosculpture that is created based on lamellae,
Translation English to Korean (urgent!!!!)? I have to translate this and send it to my friend by tonight (I'm in Korea right now) and it doesn't have to be 100% accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Arist / Architect Kurt Wenner is an international master artist who interprets Renaissance classicism with a thoroughly singular voice. Unlike any other contemporary talent, Wenner fuses the visual patrimony of the past with twenty-first century imagination and stunning originality. His works do not copy or imitate the masters, but reinvent classicism for a new age. The scope of Wenner's work is not confined to a canvas or limited by a frame. He designs and executes permanent works of art and architecture, as well as ephemeral visual illusions. From sumptuous murals and fine art for public or private residences to the amazing illusionistic street painting he is famous for, Wenner's art is lived in rather than observed. His unique approach engages the observer with an attention to detail that captures the essential qualities of Renaissance art. Enter the amazing world of Kurt Wenner. Thanks a lot.
What career should I go for? I'm 15 and I'm going to do my GCSEs this year. Since.... 12 years of age I've always been interested in architecture; I'm good at art, maths, physics and most importantly I enjoy researching and learning about construction projects, namely skyscrapers and environmentally friendly homes. If I chose architecture, I would probably aim to specialise in such fields of contemporary, "green" design, as I know these jobs will be in high demand in the future due to today's calls for environmental reforms. However lately, I've been doubting this idea. My parents have always said they see me as a sort of diplomat; my dad does something like this, working for the UN and travelling all the time. I think of is job as something I wouldn't mind doing either. My best subject by far is Geography, particularly "human" Geography - I take deep interest in it both in and out of school. I care a lot about and I am informed about current affairs and what's generally going on in the world, hence why I would love a career where I could put my knowledge to practice and make the world a better place. I've taken part in the J8 challange for the school, a junior version of the G8 summit where we try to come up with solutions with today's most pressing issues. Although we didn't make it through to the finals, I thoroughly enjoyed thinking about how issues such as Global warming and AIDs could be solved. In conclusion, I would like a job where I could work with other people to tackle or even just talk about global problems. I know this is very ambitious and specific, but I'm wondering if there is a certain career path I could take which means I can get involved, even if only very minimally as a part of big coorporations such as the UN or even the government where I could work using my knowledge of Geography. What would such job be called anyway? Am I right in assuming it is a diplomat? Obviously diplomacy is a very comples profession which branches out into various different areas. This is what I'm taking for A level, if it helps: Maths (AS/A2) Geography (AS/A2) Physics (AS/A2) Chemistry (AS/A2) Art (AS) Ethics (AS) - I am doing this in Y11 instead of my R.E GCSE, which I did last year. I may also be doing Spanish as I am a native speaker and do not need lessons and can simply sit the exam. Basically, I'm just exploring possibilities. I feel I have to pick the career I would most enjoy, and I would enjoy more working as diplomat/whatever you call it as opposed to an architect. I did my work experience there and it didn't turn out to be that great. Thanks guys, just post your views - anything even if it seems irrelevant xP
What does it take to be an architect? Should one be good at drawing? I am asking because i am not that great at drawing (creatively), but i feel that if i learned the technical skills i could draw what i needed. I am asking because i always see these high end, contemporary, modern homes where i deliver pizza (working through college) and really like that look and am always thinking of what i would do differently to the home etc. I have taken the history of architecture and i really enjoyed the class. I am majoring in art history--would this be a good springboard to architecture or am i way off?
What is Contemporary architect ? need to know for a school project. Also could u tell me what green architect is (please give complex answers if you can dont "dumb it down" k thanks
