What did the flying butteresses bring to the Gothic architecture more thatn anything else?

Public Comments

  1. The fling buttresses took the weight of the ceilings off the walls (they became the support), allowing the walls to become thinner and use more glass. I think. It's been a while since Art History I.
  2. I know that the flying buttresses allowed the Gothic architecture to take place essentially. That is because the flying buttress allows for the weight of the ceiling to be transfered off of the walls and combined with the vaulted ceiling allowed for more creative design theories. Thus the flying buttress brought the ability to build higher buildings out of stone than had previously been possible.
