how did gothic architecture increase the power of the catholic church?

Public Comments

  1. by helping assimilate the pagans they stole it from
  2. Makes the churches look pretty, pretty and rather disturbing. ^_^
  3. Hayden, Gothic architecture was never 'stolen' from pagans, it was a new type of design which emerged during the, i believe third, crusade. I dont think it helped increase the churchs power, but im sure the sight of such towering beauty inspired more and more people then ever before!
  4. It was a orante "other worldy" stlye. It showed people were willing to work hard for the church.
  5. The Catholic Church/popes are known for selling higher up positions to get lots of more more so they can build their buildings.
  6. It didn't. The Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ on earth. Architecture has nothing to do with it.
