how did gothic architecture increase the power of the catholic church?

- by helping assimilate the pagans they stole it from
- Makes the churches look pretty, pretty and rather disturbing. ^_^
- Hayden, Gothic architecture was never 'stolen' from pagans, it was a new type of design which emerged during the, i believe third, crusade. I dont think it helped increase the churchs power, but im sure the sight of such towering beauty inspired more and more people then ever before!
- It was a orante "other worldy" stlye. It showed people were willing to work hard for the church.
- The Catholic Church/popes are known for selling higher up positions to get lots of more more so they can build their buildings.
- It didn't. The Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ on earth. Architecture has nothing to do with it.
