- both
- It's an adjective.
- Ah... both. The term 'gothic' describes quite a few things, from architecture, to a writing style, to a type of art, and modernly, the style of dress/makeup.
- It really depends on what form you are speaking of. Gothic is defined in many many different ways.
- Both , 1 in the style of architeture, and 1 in the style of dress.
- Well the very first use of goth or gothic was after the fall of rome when the barbarians (franks and germanic) people were labeled that. They did not choose the name but were labeled that later. Same with gothic architecture. It was labeled afterwards as gothic. The style took place in the 1200's to 1400's or so. The term gothic was used derogatively. You can describe a look people take as gothic also. Not sure why we use that term now. Gothic architecture is not what helped us to use gothic nowadays. It was a style for churches that was very nontraditional from previous churches. Maybe too much information but I hope that answers your question.
- I would divide the traditional definition from the modern one..... go to the dictionary for traditional. Go to alternate lifestyle websites for the modern = seems like that label for culture, art, clothes, etc. goes in all kinds of strange directions. *LOL*
