why is modern architecture so bloody ugly?

Public Comments

  1. Because all people care about is money. It's all crap.
  2. bcuz ideas are well-known already....and now days there too many freaks...thats y i stay with the old days history! lol
  3. Except for the rare exception, I have to agree with you. I suspect it has to do with cost. Perhaps the company does not want to pay for finer craftsmanship.
  4. my dear frnd u r right today mordern architecture is ugly becoz the people dont have any feeling of love in their hearts like earlier taj mahal was built by hard work and for love
  5. ugly is cheap.
  6. In my opinion, it is because modernism is a rationalist ideology and like most ideologies, it is IMPOSED upon people by a cultural elite. Postmodern architecture claims to have resolved this problem.
  7. because designers have lost touch of what ART is really all about. beautiful buildings are products of human touch.... human mind... and should be the reflection of people's culture... but today they are more of products of machines, computers... we've become slaves of technology... end result? so robotic...cold... modern???!!! most of the time designers brainwash people that their designs are one of a kind... MODERN LOOK they say... and usually clients end up believing their buildings are beautiful but more often its not!!! the hell with commercialization!!! where's the warmth... that cozy feeling whenever we see a beautiful one.. one that makes us feel nostalgic...think of the past... NADA... all we see are cold steel, plastic, the "IN", synthetic building materials and crazy ideas that makes us wonder - WHERE AM I? and then you realize you don't have a past... your identity is lost... uh-oh... answering this question makes me realize its far serious than i think it is... as a designer myself, my guiding philosophy is to design buildings that will take advantage of modern technology (not a slave!) but always keeping in mind to use it as a reflection of culture because i believe that the beauty of a building lies on the sensitivity to the people's needs and traditions...
