- AutoCAD doesn't make one a great architect, hard work, dedication, study, and a level of natural talent does. I have my degree in architecture and have been working in the field for many years...I've also been using AutoCAD for 18 years. Simply seeing examples of how a drawing is designed isn't enough to "master" the art or even begin to understand it. Go to school...take drafting and architecture courses... don't get magazines as they don't cover the "heart" of architecture, instead buy books or check them out from the library because that's what the real professionals in the field do. Ultimately seeing a few drawings will never provide you with what you need and if you are a "good" candidate to become an architect they simply won't satisfy your taste. You see, architecture is a love... it's a passion...it's a lifestyle. There is a reason the average architect has a lifespan 8-10 years longer than your average person and it's because they enjoy life and their art. Absorb yourself in architecture, not the program that helps communicate the design intent... only then will you become a good architect.
- http://cben.net/ But I agree with Brian. I also have recently recieved my Bachelors in Architecture, and that helped alot with the understanding of what architecture is about. Looking at drawing files will not help at all if you can't really understand them. However, i'd recommend that if you are serious, look into getting an internship at an office that will let you get familiar with the process of architecture, and eventually start drafting.
