How can you tell if a cathedral is Roman, Gothic or Baroque?

Hello, Do you know a simple way of telling if a church/cathedral has a Roman, Gothic or Baroque architecture just by looking at it? And once you know, can you tell when it was built? Thanks for your help, Michael.

  1. The shape of the arches give it away...
  2. The main things are the shapes & decorations of the arches & columns. Please search for some pictures or drawings - they will show you better what words & names alone cannot. ;-)
  3. A Roman style church has a round-topped arch. Gothic architecture has a pointed arch and an uplifting look. Baroque architecture is an extremely ornate Roman style.
