What, how could Islam??
9 The pointed arch so characteristic of Europe's Gothic cathedrals was an invention borrowed from Islamic architecture. It was much stronger than the rounded arch used by the Romans and Normans, thus allowing the building of bigger, higher, more complex and grander buildings. Other borrowings from Muslim genius included ribbed vaulting, rose windows and dome-building techniques. Europe's castles were also adapted to copy the Islamic world's - with arrow slits, battlements, a barbican and parapets. Square towers and keeps gave way to more easily defended round ones. Henry V's castle architect was a Muslim. 10 Many modern surgical instruments are of exactly the same design as those devised in the 10th century by a Muslim surgeon called al-Zahrawi. His scalpels, bone saws, forceps, fine scissors for eye surgery and many of the 200 instruments he devised are recognisable to a modern surgeon. It was he who discovered that catgut used for internal stitches dissolves away naturally (a disc (a discovery he made when his monkey ate his lute strings) and that it can be also used to make medicine capsules. In the 13th century, another Muslim medic named Ibn Nafis described the circulation of the blood, 300 years before William Harvey discovered it. Muslims doctors also invented anaesthetics of opium and alcohol mixes and developed hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes in a technique still used today. Any haters will be reported

- Prior to the crusades the Muslim civilisation was one of the most technologically advanced in the world. How could they fall so far? Well, I imagine people will be saying the same about our capitalist Western civilisation in 500 years....
- So....what is your question????????????? Although a millennium ago the Middle East was not an economic laggard, by the 18th century it exhibited clear signs of economic backwardness. The reason for this transformation is that certain components of the region's legal infrastructure stagnated as their Western counterparts gave way to the modern economy. Among the institutions that generated evolutionary bottlenecks are the Islamic law of inheritance, which inhibited capital accumulation; the absence in Islamic law of the concept of a corporation and the consequent weaknesses of civil society; and the waqf, which locked vast resources into unproductive organizations for the delivery of social services. All of these obstacles to economic development were largely overcome through radical reforms initiated in the nineteenth century. Nevertheless, traditional Islamic law remains a factor in the Middle East's ongoing economic disappointments. The weakness of the region's private economic sectors and its human capital deficiency stand among the lasting consequences of traditional Islamic law.

- Wheres the question
- Probably the same way they claim to have a new book from God. They plagiarized from Jews and Christians.
- Satan has power to influence just like God only not as complete. This is another way God can use someone evil for the greater good. It is his promise to us and gives us hope.
- What's your point? This is all well-known and acknowledged but is not a question. it is also nothing to do with religion as far as I can see.
- yah I am a muslim I knew this a long time ago isnt it cool
- yawn
- Is your "secret" mission to rewrite history? First do some real research before you claim anything to "Muslim genius". You can join also some black people who "invented" culture and civilization. Drop your inferiority complex and try to be normal.
- Imam Jaafar alsadiq was well known in medical things also .Imam jaafar alsadiq is one the 12 shia Imams .
- Islam produced and maintained a great deal of scientific knowledge (literally rescuing Europe from the Dark Ages) up until the fall of the Ottoman Empire. After the fall, they retreated into various forms of extreme fundamantalism from which they have never recovered. Now, if they regain any symblance of the place in academia which they once held, it will be because they are learning from the West and western culture. This one is always amazed at how all things occur in a cylical fashion. The wheel of life continues to turn. May it be well with you.
- I thought the Wright Brothers did all that. Wow, them Muslims are smart. ques·tion /ˈkwɛstʃən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kwes-chuhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1.a sentence in an interrogative form, addressed to someone in order to get information in reply.
- First of all, where is the question?? second,I don't really care about the religion of the person when I meet him,I just care about his\her personality. At the end,we are all free people that have our thoughts and beleives.
- All what you mentioned is true. Muslims back in the day were much better and smarter. But the problem today is that the Media is so biased against Muslims and their history, and unfortunately many Muslims have become lazy.
- I agree with you, as being a Muslim Architect. Christians came out of their dark ages by the help of Islam.
- muslims are so ignorant
- great work !! Mashaa Allah thanks Brother on the information.
- Nice, I give you a star. There is some discussion however about the pointed arch. It might be a case of cross-fertilisation. Why you report haters? Talk to them, show them you have arguments. We do not need the Yahoo police if we are sure our ideas are better and stronger that their simpleton's ravings. Have a nice day.
