Architecture?
I'm a senior in high school, and I think I may be interested in studying architecture. What path do i take as far as college is concerned? Will I need a portfolio to be accepted into a good undergrad. program or any program at all?

- Geometry and design
- Start by going to the website of any college or university that you are interested in going to and look up their School of Architecture's course catalog. That will show you what classes you will have to take and their prerequisites and what optional classes are available. You might get in touch with some of your local Architects for information and part time work as a drafter or intern while you go to school.
- To find out which US or Canadian Universities and colleges offer architecture programs, check out www.naab.org (National Architectural Accrediting Board) and search under "architecture programs". You may click on the schools in the list and it should take you to the architecture schools website where you can find their requirements. Depending on what type of emphasis the school has (science vs design) will dictate the type of courses you might want to take in high school. But you should have a varied course load, but you should be strong in math, science, maybe a bit or art (sketching, painting, drawing) and if you school has a drafting class, or even wood working would benefit you. If you are going directly from HS to a university, they typically wont require a portfolio, that is mainly for transfer students and students who are switching majors, but you should still check with the school itself. I recommend applying to multiple architecture schools because they are all fairly impacted. If you are really set on going to a particular school and don't get into the architecture program, you can always go in as a different major and try to transfer in later. Good luck!
