Is it possible to go to architecture school from a completely unrelated field?

I studied chemistry in college, but I'm more and more interested in architecture and design. Is it possible to get a graduate degree in architecture and become an architect? Some people are telling me I'd have to go back to college.

  1. you'd have to go to architecture school, and then you have to pass 9 tests on architecture in the state you live in, then have so many hours of internship, then you get a license. chemistry has nothing to do with architecture.
  2. You will need to take the GRE and apply to an NAAB accredited architectural Graduate School, usually 3.5 years. You will need to work for another 3 years under the supervision of an architect before you are qualified to take the Architectural Registration Exam. The ARE 4.0 which consists of 7 tests (NOT 9 as stated by the other poster). Only after the completion of the ARE (in every State other than California), then you can legally call yourself an architect. A word of warning is the salary right out of school. First year interns make around $28k-42k/year with 55-70 hours/week no OT compensation.
