  1. The tradition of Roman architecture has had an important influence on American architecture. For example, many courthouses throughout America can be seen to be based on Roman architecture. An example is the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washingon, D.C. http://employees.oneonta.edu/farberas/arth/Images/109images/comparisons/supreme_court.jpg In New York City, there is the Washington Square Arch derived from the tradition of Roman Triumphal Arches. http://employees.oneonta.edu/farberas/arth/Images/109images/comparisons/washington_sq_arch.jpg The Jefferson Memorial: http://employees.oneonta.edu/farberas/arth/Images/109images/comparisons/Jefferson_Memorial.jpg The National Gallery in Washington, D.C. http://employees.oneonta.edu/farberas/arth/Images/ARTH200/Washington/national_gallery.gif More: http://ablemedia.com/ctcweb/consortium/webbromans3.html http://employees.oneonta.edu/farberas/arth/arth200/politics/roman_architecture.html
