Major in Civil engineering, and minor in Architecture?

So, I'm thinking of majoring in civil engineering and minoring in architecture. I don't know if this will benefit me if I'm trying to build my own company in construction (particularly remodeling/building homes). What do you think?

  1. That's good idea, you will actually save money for the service of architect to do the architectural design of your project or a saving for the service a civil / structural engineer to do the structural design & analysis as well as cost estimates of the project. I have a friend who is a registered civil engineer and a registered architect at the same time and just started his construction firm. He only hired services of achitecture students to do the drafting of plans and he himself is the one sealing and signing it. He is saving money on that aspect. He hired newly graduate civil engineers to do the structural analysis and prepare detailed estimates for the plan, while he is just reviewing the design and estimates and he himself is signing and sealing as well, another savings. For project supervision, he himself is the one supervising the project with only assistance of a good and experienced foreman.
