- personally i think it was late eighties. i lived there from 1988-2000 and at that time in 1988 the boom was just starting. the company i worked for moved into offices in city tower 2 which was about the 2nd tower to be built on sheikh zayed road, safa tower they were building at same time too, now i understand its pretty built up but i havent returned for a while.
- It's easy to surf for Dubai's history. You are paying for what? You are just making me laughing. http://www.iexplore.com/dmap/United+Arab+Emirates/History
- the government of UAE know that their enormous amout of wealth they have from their oil revenues won't last froever so they spend all the money on building really beautiful unique marvel buildings so that when their oil money runs out they'll have tourists come from around the world to see Dubai (but it won't work )
- Sorry but Dubai IS NOT a "model of modern architecture". No way not even close. The Dubai / UAE government are doing a fabulous job at marketing what does not currently exist.. A large modern vibrant western style city. Hong Kong has a skyline that trumps anything in the mid East. Don't get me wrong Dubai does have a few amazing buildings but that's it..few. What they show in photos is very creative angles. It is all very very spread out and still a 3rd world desert city. Anyone that wants to dispute this that has been to Hong Kong as well as Dubai I would like to hear it. Not interested in comments from those that have only been to or have never traveled outside Dubai. Anyway get on a plane and go see it and judge for yourself.
