what is the difference between the design of a catholic and a lutheran church?

They both have a simular setup. (Vestibule in the back, pews located around the alter, optional bell tower, separate area for the choir, alter with a cross, table, seats.) and they both have their churches with gothic, and modern architecture.

  1. The Lutheran church was simply a reforming of the Catholic church. Both are not as the church of the New Testament.
  2. there isn't much remember luther didn't really want to break with the catholic church only to help reform certain teachings
  3. About a quarter of a million dollars, candles, saint statues, stained glass, holy water, wine, cakes, etc....
  4. Features of Catholic Churches that aren't found in Lutheran Churches: The altar is always advanced, the priest faces the people (many Lutherans do so too). Low benches, for kneeling Display of the Holy Sacrament Depictions of the Via Crucis Confessionary boxes. Images of distinctively Catholic Saints (although Lutherans may have some images too) The cross is always a Crucifix (not always in Lutheran Churches, rarely in the Americas).
  5. * Most Lutheran churches still have rails where we kneel for Communion. * Most Lutheran churches in North America do *not* have a tabernacle for reserving the consecrated host. It is either all consumed before the close of the service (the preferred practice), or else it is kept in the sacristy. * Most Lutheran churches do not have a monstrance. * Most Lutheran churches do not have holy water fonts at the doors. * Many (but not all) Lutheran churches have an arrangement of the chancel that I think is not found in Catholic churches: Instead of a separate pulpit and lectern, they will have an ambo placed on the congregation's right (normally at the same level as the rest of the chancel), and the baptismal font will be placed in the chancel on the congregation's left. * I've never seen a confessional box in a Lutheran church. Confession is done in the pastor's office or another designated location. * Many misguided Lutheran congregations use only bare crosses, not crucifixes. * Lutheran churches usually do not have stations of the cross. That's all that's coming to mind right now.
