certified associate in project management?
I have a bachelor degree in landscape architecture and am looking at a program for a certified associate in project management because the economy has made the job market for landscape architects especially bad. What kind of job opportunities would be available for me with this certification and background and will it be worth it?

- Linds, The CAPM is an entry level project management certificate. It is issued by the Project Management Institute, which has a very high reputation in the market. (The primary certificate that they offer is the PMP, but you very likely don't have the qualifications for it.) Project management is an incredibly wide field: You can be a PM in construction, software development, health care or the automotive industry - to name just a few. On every project you will have to bring along a mix of industry experience as well as project management experience. So in your case, you have the landscaping experience, but do you have the PM experience? Did you lead teams, create schedules, manage customer expectations and communicate with all the stakeholder? Only you can decide. In order to better understand what is available to you I recommend that you stop by at www.monster.com and search for PM jobs in your industry. You can also look for CAPM and see how many job ads you find with this particular keyword. Lastly, I would recommend that you listen to The Project Management Podcast at www.thepmpodcast.com. This is my own program. It is completely free and will give you a good understanding of what is required of a project manager.
