Contemporary architecture related to environment of medieval cathedrals?

Would you say that contemporary architecture is as closely related to its environment as the cathedral was? why or why not? Explain. ^^^^ Question on a homework, and i dont have any idea what it means????? help!

  1. The Cathedral was designed to show the divinity of God. The designers tried to get the structures as high as technically possible for their technology at that time. There were no consideration of it's surrounding vernacular architectural features. In other words, the building was to stand by itself and not blend into its background or relate to anything around it in appearance. Contemporary architecture as a whole is too general of a term to compare to the way Medieval Cathedrals relate to its environment. There are some pieces of contemporary architecture that blends into the surrounding. But for some buildings, they stick out in order to draw attention.
