I'm visiting South Africa for 4 days. Should I spend them in Cape Town or Johannesburg?

I'm planning a trip that will have 4 days in South Africa. I like urban exploration, beautiful photo ops, meeting locals, and local food. I'm gay (consider nightlife). I really like picking a city that is the essence of the culture (I'd pick Rome for Italy and Barcelona for Spain). I like a mix of beautiful spaces (parks, nature preserves, vista, botanical gardens), architecture, musea, shopping and people watching. Any suggestions?

  1. Definitely Cape Town,it is the city has all the things that you want. The fibe there will suit you.Hope you have fun wherever you decide to go
  2. Lol Honey I'd say Cape Town, there is Table Mountain,Devils Peak and the the beautiful Seafront and Night Life. Johannesburg don't really have much to offer expect Night Life!!!!xxxx I hope you have a wonderfull time out there!!!!!
  3. Cape Town for sure, it's one of the most scenic must-see cities in the world. Joburg is merely the industrial capital of SA, not much to see.
  4. Cape Toown. There's a great trip to Stellenbosch wine growing area, with beautiful scenery and magnificent old wineries. Whale Bay would be a good trip too. Go up Table Mountain, fabulous views. Jo'burg is hilly and has some nice places around, and the zoo in Pretoria not far away is awesome. You get a cable car to the top and walk down. Cape Town is the best though,it's got all you mention.
  5. Cape Town has more to see, but Joburg is my fav just cuz its really 'africa'. CT is more beachy
  6. Cape Town is the answer - in the Gardens you get to feed the squirrels as well, and the view from Table Mountain makes it worth while, all the others you will be able to see and do at the Waterfront, the Castle and Longstreet
  7. DEFINITALY CAPE TOWN! Not only is it the most gay friendly city in South Africa but the views are BEAUTIFUL! Her is a link of all the attractions! Enjoy your stay here! http://www.sa-venues.com/wcattrac.htm http://www.capetown.tv/nightlife.htm
  8. Cape Town. But, 4 days is really too little.
  9. Cape Town is a great place to visit for fun, so I'll recommend it. Joburg you only go to if you want to get serious about stuff. (In my opinion, staying in Cape Town for more than a week is a rather silly idea).
  10. Cape-town, gorgeous place, beaches with ice-cold water, surfing, mountains you name it , it is there.
  11. Cape Town for sure. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, good infra-structure
  12. Capetown
