architecture future-going green?
i feel like i want to be an architect but people are always saying they dont make much money besides the top like 5-10%, which is a pretty small margin, yet with the environmental issues and aesthetics becoming bigger and more important issues, isnt the future of architecture alot better than it currently is? I mean people back were grateful if they had a roof over their heads, but nowadays, people go for not just houses, but well designed houses, and with global warming an issue, going green is big as well. So do you think theres a bright future for architects? -o and by the way could an architect also be an interior designer?

- yes. indeed. If you are rich, then you should go into this field, or if you have a good people connection, you should too. An architect can also be an interior designer for sure. The future of architecture will be the combination of natural resources, technology and view rendering.
- Hey man, Where i live, Architects must achieve a specific environmental energy rating, before a house or building can be built...a good example of this scale..well, the majority of houses already built, do not meet these requirements. Houses already built require too much active energy..air-cons, heaters etc, accessories to a house that cost money...and our job is to eliminate this as much as possible, to make life easier, more comfortable and more cheaper for our clients. This is done through passive design, and is something you'll learn about through the degree. Interior designers do not need a degree to operate a business..where i live, so i guess that'd over-qualify Architects in this field, right? Technically, it'd be handy to pick up a degree for this though.
- Well, you probably shouldn't go into architecture if you're concerned about the money. On average, for the amount of schoolwork and time you put in, architects make relatively small salaries. However, if you have a passion for design, go for it. The problem is that the idea of green design is becoming a regulation issue. Most clients don't care about being green or having quality design. True, architects must be more and more educated to keep pace with increasing overall requirements, but that hasn't led to a huge increase in pay. Now, if you can design well, and can find your niche, you can make decent money.
