- 45 minutes? That's it? I do a long unit on Greek art and architecture for my fifth graders. We study and make classical greek columns (they choose: ionic, corinthian, or doric) out of clay, modern-day renderings of buildings that were inspired by classical Greece, Greek pottery (red figure or black figure), and more. For a 45 minute lesson, I would suggest studying the column orders and/or the frieze and pediment... and notice how many of our buildings here in the USA have adopted those styles. If you want to include an actual art piece that they create, you could leave a few minutes at the end to sketch their own original building inspired by Greek architecture that could be built in your town today.
