What could be the best for me, architecture or interior design?

I am about to graduate from high school and I am preparing for college but I'm not sure what course to take. I like arts but i'm not really gifted with the talent in drawing, especially free hand drawing. But I have done simple technical/mechanical drawing.

  1. archaitecture fo so
  2. There aren't many jobs in interior design...I know several graduates of interior design schools and 2 are working as secretaries and the other a waitress. Architecture is a better job, although it usually takes 5 years in college. Drawing is done with a ruler, so freehand design doesn't matter much.
  3. I wouldn't take the decision to become an architect lightly. Architecture is a rigorous degree and if your not dedicated, then you will not make it. Interior design is easier, but as someone already said, not necessarily the best job. Architecture is at least a 5 year degree and then an internship after that for 2-4 years before you can become fully licensed. You will do tons of free hand sketches but they will then be drawn with rulers after hammering out some details. If your better with the mechanical part and math, maybe architectural engineering is more for you.
  4. Technical Drawing you say? Definately focus your attention on Architecture. Freehand drawing is something you'll pick up throughout your tertiary education. You will be learning (i.e.) AutoCAD (technical drawing), but regardless, freehand will always be necessary, even as a qualified Architect, whether through conceptualisation (which is almost impossible to do on computer), or freehand documentation (with the aid of rulers etc...making it a lot easier for you). Also, think of drawing as rough imperfect pictures, because that is basically what you do in the course. You don't need talent, you just need to convey your visual imagination on paper. Goodluck.
