Why are modern buildings dreadful to look at and out of keeping?
I can only describe them as "abortions on the landscape". Why do architects design such s**t buildings? Take the centre of Edinburgh as an example, look at the magnificent buildings and then look at the little coffee shop in the centre of the park? Who designed that, and more to the point, which inept person passed it?? Clearly, we are lacking ability in the architecture field.

- I totally agree with you..We have such beautiful old buildings and then some t**t designs something from 'Star Trek' to go right next door, maddening and i hate it................
- The architrave is not lacking ability and is not s***. I have to agree I don't like the designs but design changes all the time. It's the modern designs now. If they stuck with the same designs then there wouldn't be any movement any experiments in the art world. People will love the designs people will hate the designs we all have a different view on how we interpret the designs and they may all be quite ugly.
- Our buildings reflect us. It's a no-time, hurry-up, efficient and cost-effective world. No ornamentation. No workmanship. No future.
- Everything's done ' on the cheap'. Great architecture, like anything else of quality, costs money.
- because unlike "populuxe or googie" architecture, modern buildings as you refer them to are meant to blend in with their surroundings, thus, they look safe, conservative, and easy on the eyes. you might have eccentric visual taste.
