Is the tajmahal an example of Gothic architecture?
Public Comments
- No. Gothic architecture is characterized by pointed arches and tall spires. Search for french gothic cathedrals to see examples.
- Gothic is a European movement of architecture. The Taj Mahal is in India.
- if it's gothic, it ain't the tajmahal
- No, it is called Mujhal architecture which is essentially indigenous persian architecture... Characteristic of this type of architecture is latticework, snake like brackets, and screens on windows so air can pass through...The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan for his wife (it is a mausoleum)... here is an interesting fact: Directly across from the Taj Mahal they were supposed to build a mausoleum identical to the Taj Mahal but in black marble. Shah Jahan died and his plans were not carried out!!!! I hope this helps you
