what should i do...school/work/life? :)?

I normally wouldn't be asking, but I just want some thoughts. I'm graduating in may from a large university, with a b.s. in agriculture. My husband has one more year left after me, and he'll have a b.a. in landscape architecture (not contracting, he'll be planning malls, parks, etc), and should be making good money after he graduates in 2010. I've recently realized (maybe a little too late!) that although agriculture was awesome to learn about and is more than just farming, there's not really any jobs in it aside from the government and out west (and not really where we're planning on living). So, I want to go back to school for nursing. I guess my question is... should I work for a year and concentrate on paying off some of my loans, or just... go straight into an nursing program and add to my debt and just pay it all off at once? I'm having a hard time finding ANY job, really, not just in agriculture.I've done other things too, so I could work in an office or something, but its just not happening for me. So, what do you think? School, work, or both?

  1. It's difficult to answer your question without knowing how much you and your husband already owe, what his earning expectations are, and what other debts you may have. However, I can tell you that Student Loan debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy - you will have it forever, so you should not borrow lightly. If I were you, I look for a job of any sort in a hospital or doctor's office. That would give you a chance to earn some money, get exposure to the health care field to see if you like it, and you may even be able to get some tuition assitance from your employer to study nursing.
