Looking for cities/towns in Europe that have the least amount of new architecture.?

The City/Town must have a University, and very little amounts of Modern Buildings/Architecture. The Historical structure of the city must be well preserved. Modern architecture is allowed only if it is far away from the city center. Thanks!

  1. Prague is the best unsullied old city centre. Look on gooogleEaarth. I was there for a few days, and it's a great city with a young, cosmopolitan vibe.
  2. Prague is nice, but be prepared to share it with billions of other tourists and there are modern buildings in the city centre. Dresden has been totally re-built in the old style - a worthwhile city to visit. There are so many cities/towns like that in Germany, eg: Bamberg, Rothenburg ob der Taube (also touristy, but preserved medieval town) http://www.rothenburg.de/index.php?get=121 The best half-timber houses I have ever seen were in Wernigerode: http://translate.google.com/translate?client=tmpg&hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wernigerode-tourismus.de%2F&langpair=de|en In Poland: Krakow: http://www.krakow.pl/en/?chl=EN
  3. Santarino in Greece
  4. Try Siena here in Italy - a city that largely retains it's medieval character and includes two major universities. On top of that there are tons of old hill town in the Tuscan countryside surrounding the city. http://www.italyguides.it/us/siena_italy/siena_italy.htm https://www.iesabroad.org/IES/Programs/Italy/Siena/siena.html
