Does anyone know what the purple plants in this garden are?
This is my wife's flower garden and for years we get these purple plants that have some light purple flowers. They are nice but they take over the entire garden. I have pulled them up and even tilled the soil before planting and they still some back. Any advice? We did not plant them. http://www.picable.com/Architecture/Gardens/My-Yearly-Flower-Garden.721809

- Purple Heart or spider lily aka Tradescantia pallida (my grandmother and her friends call it "wandering Jew" but I think that name is no longer politically correct) I love it. It's one of my favorites. It's a ground cover and pretty much the only way I know to get rid of it is to pull it out. and that means remove ALL of the plant since you root it from even just a small portion of leaf. If you're feeling enterprising then you can transplant them into nursery pots and sell them at your next yard sale since you don't want them.
- It looks to me like purple heart. Looked on Ebay for proper name and they had some for sale. They are called Purple heart Setcreasea Pallida vine plant. Your picture doesn't show it up close and I'm guessing you live in the warmer zones. I have mine as a houseplant as I live in Iowa. I suggest you pot em up & sell em on Ebay! Don't really know how to get rid of them other than to keep pulling em up.
