What should you master in school to become a great microcomputer architecture designer?

Verilog, VHDL, Digital Circuit design, Parallal Computer Architecture, C, C++? What more? I am in electrical engineering. I know some of these and I anyhow want to join a front end architectural design team. This is a very important decision for me.

  1. I would suggest you get hold of someone at Intel.com. I bet they would love to guide you, as they are always looking for good talent.
  2. Great designers don't come right out of school. There is much to learn to be a good designer that you don't get from books or professors. You only get it by on the job experience. You would be surprised how much the real world doesn't work like your simulator or text book says it should. So the best advice would be to learn the school material and get out into the real world.
