I am weak in math, what about this major?

I am a bit weak in math, and I believe that it is not lack in skills but it is lack of practice. I understand that math is not memorizing, but math is based on practice. I consider myself weak in math because i tend to be careless about the subject. When an upcoming test is coming, I leave studying until the night before the test, knowing that i don't know where we are in the subject. It is not that i hate the subject, but i treat it like the rest of the subjects in school. I am a junior, and next year a senior. I've been looking for a major that suits me. Law is in my consideration, where it is based on understanding law and memorization. Business and management, im taking a diploma course in school just in case. I like the subject, i understand it and my grade is 80%(85% equivelant) considering it's an IB course. Architecture. I love designing. I love graphic and 3D designing. I know that it is somehow related to interior designing. I discovered that i liked the subject through Microsoft Visio, where we learned how to use the program in Computer class. As a final assesment, we were assigned a project where a customer would seek for us as architectures and want us to build them a house based on their requirment. I loved the project and my design was picked by the teacher so that i would make a model of it, and to be exhibited in the school lobby. As a requirment of this course or major, i need mathematical skills and some science courses. I am willing to focus more on math and science courses. If i am willing to take this major, i am willing to focus more on it so that i would be qualified. So anyone tell me what you think i should do, or major in. I need after i graduate from school to take some courses, as next year would not be enough for me to take 3 science courses and 2 math courses, it would be alot of pressure in one year. So again any help would be appreciated. Thanks=)

  1. Go for it! If you really love to design things, then architecture will be your best bet. The main thing is working hard, but I can see that you're willing to put the effort into your math and science classes. Personally, I think that the main focus in architecture is your artistic sense. With computers and new software, the computer can actually help you with your math and calculations. Good luck!
  2. Wow, sounds like a letter home. You write well, I assume you are articulate, and I guess you know you're asking a buncha strangers what career you should have. Yikes. I have found that often the career finds you, not the other way 'round. The major often finds you as well Math in particular is weird...unless you're going to be a mathematician, you probably won't 'do math' on a daily basis in any career, not chemistry, engineering, or even architecture. You need an understanding of the theories and mostly an understanding of what the heck the computer is doing when it spits out info. Learning how a mathematicians' brain works is revealing. When I realized that a 'proof' consisted of , in some cases, proving something was true for all negative numbers, zero, and all positive numbers, it occurred to me "Hey that's pretty much everything." It really is 'proof', without having to visit each and every number.
