New Capital for India?
Don't you think India deserves a new capital city? Pakistan built Islamabad and it is praised all over the world for its modern but Islamic style buildings and for its friendliness towards the environment. We inherited the capital built by India's oppressors. Why should we display pride in that? We should show pride by building a capital built by our own architects with modern buildings reflecting India's cultural diversity- not necessarily western architecture that Mumbai and Delhi use to build new projects. On a much more practical note, don't you think Delhi along with other big cities are overcrowded? By building a new capital somewhere in the middle of the country (like in rural Madhya Pradesh) , the big cities will be able to improve themselves while their people will start migrating to the new capital. Well, that is my point of view. What do you think? Also, if we ever build a new capital, what do yuo think it should be named? Personally, I feel that since India is officially secular it should not have any name derived from any religion. Instead, I propose the name "Nehrupuram" as Jawarharlal Nehru should have the honor as George Washington had the honor of having Wahington D.C. named after him. I think the suffix 'puram' or even 'pur' are appropriate despite being connected with Hinduism (since Sanskrit is associate with Hinduism.) What do you think? But Mohammad bin Tughlaq didn't have the technologies that we do to have water brought in everyday or to have people to be transported easily from city to city. In my opinion, I do think it would be productive in India. If a new capital arises, more people (especially the poor) would migrate and cities such as Mumbai or Delhi will be able to clean up their cities without having to deal with problems such as demolishing people's homes that are in the way. We already have a Gandhinagar, Mohan.

- The part saying 'shifting the capital somewhere else will help in improvement and migration patterns' sounded good. But its difficult and very very meticulous job. It won't ever happen. Its not practical first of all. Because you can't just "shift" capitals or make new ones. Plus let all the kachra be in one place itself, why spread it all over :P But it will be good if them politicos try to concentrate on improving the existing capital and cities first. I would love to see them "go green" ahh... wishful thinking.
- Your idea of shifting the capital is,to say the least, fatuous.More than that, don't you think that we have had a surfeit of Nehru-Gandhi rammed down our throats? All that now remain are new hair dressing salons, country liquor bars, massage parlors and such like waiting to be named after the illustrious dynasty. The whole pity of it is that the members of the clan themselves seem to be encouraging the naming spree indulged in by the super-sycophants.There doesn't appear to be any let up on this issue which has become staler than the forty or fifty year old cake that one guy in the US ate to celebrate some nonsensical event.
- Before giving priority for any change of capital, one should keep in mind a similar change attempted by Muhammed bin Tughlak. Building of a new capital just because Pakistan had done it, is no reason for change. There are several countries, including UK, that had retained their old capitals.
- india already has three capital 1. new delhi-political capital 2. mumbai----economic capital 3. j&k------------terrorist capital
- When would we free ourselves of false pride and non-productive focus of our energies? Can't we do something productive, I mean something useful to someone? The name 'Nehrupuram' and the location, 'rural MP' is unthinkable. I think it was Muhammad bin Tuglak, who once experimented this nonsense and the result was disaster.
- how would it be productive if we only develop cities and not the villages??? we got better jobs to do...nehrupuram?? are you serious cause that sounds like a very poor joke...
- B for Badmaashi aur Bekari
- New Delhi is the the right and the best to the capital of India.
- Yes n I suggest Hyderabad !
- Why nehrupuram?Why not gandhipuram?
- What is wrong with the present Capital. All we need to do is shift some of the important Constitutional agencies and ministries to other places like Nagpur or Hyderabad or even Thiruvananthapuram..
