  1. Interior Architecture is a comparatively modern term. It is coined by Architects, who have basically become Interior designers. And following in their footsteps, it has become Interior Architecture. Architecture how eer remains - purely Architecture, encompassing all the arts and crafts prescribed. In both the profesions, maths is an important factor - though not so much in Interiors.
  2. The difference is hazy. Perhaps the biggest difference is that an architect can do interior architecture, while an interior architect cannot do "architecture" (ie building structural and envelope design). An architect is a licensed professional who is legally responsible for the work he produces, while an interior "architect" has no such legal obligations. There are no set requirements to become a professional interior architect. The interior architecture department at your college will have set a curriculum which will usually include some rudimentary "statics" (ie the physics of how a building stands up) classes, so that you are familiar with the principles of the field and able to have an educated conversation with an engineer. Don't worry, most interior architecture students will be like you and won't be too excited about physics...
