What is it like living in Chicago?

I'm a jr in college majoring in landscape design and have been looking @ graduate schools in Chicago. I'd really like to go to IIT to get my masters in Architecture. So what are the pros and cons of living in Chicago? I'm from NC, and currently attend school in Tallahassee, Fl which is slow and boring. I know I want to live somewhere with a faster pace. I'm sure it gets really cold there in the winter, but I'm sure I'd be able to adapt eventually. Also, if I do go to grad school up there although I'd be bringing my car hows the public transportation system? And What are the people like? How is the crime, is there a lot to do there?

  1. I don't live in Chicago but being from Austin Texas I had my doubts about a METRO CITY. My fears were baseless, I loved CHICAGO... The people are great, fantastic shopping, hotels, eating, museums, beautiful parks and so varied in the different neighborhoods. We visited a couple of very nice neighborhoods, one called Wickertown, Buck Town? and Wrigleyville! I loved all those areas, also went to Little Italy and that was great as well! So, pick a great realtor, go for a visit and have a great time!
  2. If you don't mind waiting and paying for everything you do Chicago might be for you. It is a dirty city with empty cans and smashed bottles everywhere. It seems many of the residents don't know what trash cans are for. The freeways and even toll ways are always jammed. Housing is sky high. The governments are corrupt as can be. It in many ways is like a third world city. Most people do understand English. The nice thing is you may never get points on your license if you just pay the cop cash when he comes to the window to pull you over.
  3. chicago is a really amazing city but the reality is the only people who can enjoy it are people with money alot of people in chicago (and every other metropilan areas) spend everyday working and going home and maybe once a week hangout
