What building in NY reminds you of (classical architecture)?

Public Comments

  1. There are tons of buildings in New York and elsewhere that "remind me" of classical architecture, and that is because the vocabulary of Greek and Roman classical architecture has been used throughout the western world for many centuries. In the 19th-century, U.S. urban designers and architects were very anxious to hark back to Greek and Roman designs, and even the post-modernists have tried to do so. You might consider the New York Public Library, by Carrere and Hastings, or the Frick Museum by Hastings. They were influenced by the Beaux Arts School of Daniel Burnham (and both worked with McKim, Mead, and White). Even Burnham's unusual Flatiron Building was classically influenced. Today, many architects are still heavily influenced by classical architecture. You simply can't get away from it.
