Any tips for starting an admissions essay/personal statement?
I'm in the process of applying to NC State University as a transfer back in my hometown of Raleigh NC. I'm currently attending school in FL, and recently changed my major from Structural Architecture to Landscape Design & Management (LDM). Although my current school's LDM program is pretty good, I wont be able to become a licensed Landscape Architect with a LDM degree and NC State has a great Landscape Architecture program. As I mentioned, I'm in the process of doing the application, but unfortunately I'm stuck on the starting personal statement. Although this portion is optional, it just seems like a good idea to write one anyway. They also ask: "Discuss any obstacles and/or hardships you have encountered and how you dealt with them." "Describe the reasons you have chosen to enter the major that you selected previously in this application." and "What is your view of diversity and its importance in education?" And like the personal statement, I'm stuck on starting. Any tips?

- Hi I'm actually stuck on this too. I'm in the process of applying to transfer to NC State for Spring 2010. I already have finished everything and yea I also hate the essay part. Well for the personal statement I've always been told not to repeat something you have already put on the application. I guess you should try describing yourself, like if your the type of person who doesn't give up. Or if you have some flaws in your academics this would be your chance to explain why. Um, you could talk about what made you change your major and goals that you have set for yourself to accomplish your career goals. You could talk about why you decided to get a higher education. Any experiences that have made you mature in life or changed the your outlook on things. What is the most important thing for you to accomplish in life. Think about it like a job application: like you know how if you want to get a job you obviuosly put quick learner, hard working, etc..well try to write something that will make them want to accept you and make you stand out. You know everyone writes about their parents being the role models and blah blah....and just write like if you were talking to a friend of yours, be yourself. Oh and you might want to ask friends what is special about you and wha sets you apart so you can get some ideas. Sometimes we have to get people to tell us how we ware cuz we don't see our own qualities. Well let me know how everything goes....if u have any suggestions for me let me know. you can message me smilenow13crylater@yahoo.com Good Luck!
