Information on landscape architecture?

I am a college student majoring in Architecture. I have been thinking about switching to landscape arhitecture. I live in Nebraska so I will not be able to be a landscape architect year round because of the snow, would I? I heard I would have to minor in community and city planning, I just need information over this career path any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  1. Pine trees and Christmas decorations come to mind for winter activities of a lanscape architect. you'd have to be clever to stay busy in winter. perhaps you should speak to a person who works in the industry to see if it's really a viable career in Nebraska?
  2. Landscape Architecture is a viable career path in any area. Just because you get winter doesn't mean that you can't work there. It will be very slow at that time of year, but if you get into some big government projects, you will be busy designing through the winter. I, too was going to go into Landscape Architecture, but I realized I don't have the math aptitude for it. I live in Illinois. My beginning Landscape design instructor was a working LA. He did private, high end work. He started out designing and installing, doing all the measuring himself. He got out of the installation, and just does the design work and oversees the installation. His wife is a landscape designer and knows all the plants. He does hardscape. But there are other sectors that LA's can get into, like park planning for instance.
