Americorps & Peace Corps: are there opportunities to work in construction or building? (architecture student)?
Hi! I graduated from college 2 years ago with a BA in architecture, and in those 2 years, I've been teaching English in Japan, and am now ready to get back into architecture. I'm thinking it would be good to get some hands-on technical experience with just construction and building (I know it will be invaluable to my knowledge as an architect in the future) and am trying to figure out what to do. I will be looking for jobs at architecture and contracting/construction firms, but I came across these two organizations. Does anyone know if I would be able to get some experience with building in either of these? Thank you for your help!

- Hi :) I was in the Peace Corps as a business volunteer and can tell you that they offer programs for just about every discipline. They would love to have an architecture applicant, I am sure. One thing you should know is that many times your assignment isn't what you think of as traditional 'architecture' or 'business' projects. For instance, as a business volunteer I was supposed to work with very small accounting co-ops or with womens' groups to discuss differentiating their tiny business from their competitor. However, I think it's a great way to see the world and you will certainly need to use your imagination if you go somewhere random like I did. Good luck to you!
