What do you think of the standard of modern architecture in the UK (last 20 years)?

Thinking of all new builds, houses, shops, business parks etc rather than just the big high profile buldings.

Public Comments

  1. Ugly, but no where as bad as those built in the 60s.
  2. I think a lot of the public and business buildings are interesting and exciting. I can't think of a recent building that I really dislike, in terms of appearance at least. Wait, yes I can - London City Hall! Build quality is another issue. I used to work in a cheaply constructed PPP hospital building that was an oven in the summer and a fridge in the winter, and had cracks appearing in the floors after 1 year. I get the impression that a lot of modern houses are cheaply built mass-produced boxes, designed to maximise profit for the builders. What makes me cringe is when you see a row of what are basically tiny terraced houses, but they have made 5 foot wide gaps between them, called them "detached" and whacked another 30 grand on the price.
  3. mostly fugly eyesores.
