What is the difference between architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning?

I'm applying for the CAP program at Ball State (Muncie, IN), and although I don't need to know until my sophomore year which one I want to major in, I still want to have an idea. I honestly am interested in all three, but I obviously need to choose one. Is there anyone who has more information/details about each, or a specific one? Any one with experience or knowledge on the topics. I'd appreciate it.

  1. Well all three are great career paths but it depends on what type of career you are after. Architecture is very creative, almost like an arts subject with exploring ideas about designing spaces and how these spaces make people feel. Architecture is mostly about the design of the residence, building or buildings and a general landscaping layout. Landscape Architecture is all about taking the same ideas that architects use in designing buildings but applying this to the outside world. Creating spaces for people to use and enjoy or just somewhere to enjoy as they pass through. A Urban Planner is a lot less creative. There are different types of planners (DA Planner, Environmental, Strategic etc) that do different jobs. Planning is not a very creative job and you are more of a collector of information. Reports, plans and requests from Engineers, Developers, Architects and Government Agencies are gathered and used to get new developments or re developments created. Hope this helps..
