What the difference between mordern greek architecture and ancient greek architecture?

Public Comments

  1. ancient greek- based on Mycenian art, during geometric period, key patterns were popular on buildings then there were two different styles DORIC- thick columns, doric capitals, pediments, friezes (sculputual bands around buildings), triglyphs, metope sculptures and IONIAN style (Greek orientalizing) Modern greek architecture: i believe modern greek architecture is the adoption of roman styles of architecture such as sculptures in niches, transverse arches in buildings, use of columns, painted ceilings, atriums (open rooms), ARCHES! lots of arches, everywhere., hope this helped somewhat! look it up online too for greater detail!
  2. I think in addition to foxy.mamajama's insight, the materials used in ancient Greece were various stones, including Marble and you may want to look into the type of wood and other materials they used. To me, modern architypes typically involve steel and other day of age materials that are cheaper, stronger, or exhibit other qualities learned over the years usually in contrast to inadequate, overly-expensive, or otherwise obsolete materials the ancients may have used.
