What subject should i major in before i take up an architecture major?
I was wondering what subject I should major in before going into the architecture major so that once i get into the architecture major, i will already have a good background...Do you suggest English, the Arts, Physics, Art History, etc. I'm only doing this because the school I'm applying to has the architecture major available only to junior level applicants..Thank you so much for your help! ^^ 10 points for the one with the the best answer!

- You don't have to major in anything. Just make sure you fulfill the prerequisites for the architecture program. Even if you chose a major, you won't start taking courses that pertain to that major until your junior year anyway. You usually spend your first two years of college fulfilling general education requirements.
- If it is available, the best background is probably civil engineering or a related engineering field which teaches about the physical aspects of structures. If that's not available, consider an undeclared major if possible and take some classes in art history and business. If you are interested in owning your own architectural firm some day, business would be a good background. You will probably spend most of the first two years fulfilling your general education or breadth requirements.
- I would suggest Art and Architectural History... at my school we have to take a lot of these courses and it makes sense. Any engineering degree wont help you get an architecture degree. Its relevant information, but once you are an architect you will higher engineers to do that stuff for you.
- Basically its more about what basic knowledge should you have before going into architecture. I think an engineering background is best for an understanding construction, physics, and mechanics. This will help you to understand the importance of design details later. (But not everyone is mathematically inclined.) Art history is also a good choice! In studying architecture, it is really important to understand what the masters studied and looked at for inspiration. Even basic art history classes will give you a wide rage of knowledge useful to you in your architectural studies! It really depends on what you are interested in within architecture.
