Would a bachelor's in interior architecture be a good way to prepare me for a master's in architecture?

I know they're 2 different subjects, but I've toured the interior architecture department at my college and it's pretty in-depth in terms of the designs. Like, it's not just some fluff major where I'd be learning what pillows look best with what couch. The courses deal more with actually designing the structure of a room and whatnot. Would this be a good stepping stone to eventually get my master's in architecture? Being an architect is my main goal, however none of the public colleges in my state offer bachelor's degrees in architecture, only master's. I figure interior architecture would be the next best thing since it deals with architecture and structure and focuses a lot on being able to design plans for a building, which is one of the central parts of an architecture program. Obviously I'd be better prepared with a degree in architecture. but will interior architecture give me sort of an introduction to what I'd be learning in grad school?

  1. It will give you a lot of background is design itself. In many schools of thought, design is design is design. If you go this way, when ever you have the choice to do projects that lean towards the kind of work you want to end up doing, go with that. Letting your professors know this is your purpose may encourage them to give you assignments that support your plans, too. If you really want to design buildings and homes, you should consider going to Berkeley, the best school on the planet in architecture. Especially their Master's program. With degrees from Berkeley you have command of your career like in no other way. Here's a link to Berkeley; http://www.arch.berkeley.edu
