Question about the architecture of Washington DC?

I have a take home art test that I need help with. This is the only question that I am not really sure about. Washington DC was constructed using the Greco-Roman style because: a. it became symbolic of the new political order b. it bore no resemblance to English architecture c. it was promoted by Thomas Jefferson d. all of the above Any help would be appreciated. :)

  1. a. Greek Revival architecture was symbolic of the notion that America would emulate Athenian Greece. Greek revivalism was not part of British architecture. Jefferson promoted an Italian rural-rational style. Google Robert Mills & Washington Monument There is no such thing as "Greco-Roman style" but that's another issue. The important principal in DC is Pierre L'enfant's rationalist city plan of right-angles and diagonals.
