What is the difference between modern architecture and international architecture?

Public Comments

  1. Modern architecture is a pretty broad span of architecture and is often labeled as any current architecture that is devoid of ornament and/or is conceptually driven. The international style was part of the early "modern" movement from the Bauhaus in Germany. Those generally associated with the International style are European architects like Mies Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Walter Gropius. The international style is devoid of ornament and has strong emphasis on horizontals (and ribbon [long strips] windows). International style architects believed in the idea of a building as a machine and that a buildings beauty came from its function.
