  1. A career in architecture could involve working on anything from a small project altering an existing building to being on a team designing huge public building like airports etc. In reality you will specialise in one type of work - e.g. alterations to domestic buildings, offices etc. It is very rare to be the only architect on a big project. You will need to build a reputation in order to generate business, so a lot of architects enter designs into 'competitions' to get commissions. This way their name gets known. Why not offer to help in an architects office for a week or two - that way you can see the processes and speak to people in the trade.
