How did architecture change during the modern period?

I'm doing a project on architecture and the changes that its taken from the pre-modern time period to the modern time period (late 1800s-1930s). If anyone knows anything on the topic or has any good websites i could use would be helpful. thanks.

  1. Architecture during the modern period became a celebration of technology. This was the period where buildings started using steel, glass, and iron. With the emphasis of being "modern" the buildings gradually became to disassociate itself from past precedents. Many of the modern buildings were very simple but functional. This is a period when the term "form follows function" came about. Previously, many buildings were built of stone, bricks, and wood. They included ornamentation, especially those from the Arts and Craft movement and Victorian Era. These were an emphasis of historical styles and human craftsmanship.
