Have you ever been stereotyped?
Okay I get we live in a society where we as individuals are judged on everything that we do but why do people feel that it is right to wrongly judge someone based on your appearance. Anyways my experience includes a girl who transferred into my AP class and we are now acquaintances but this is what she thought just based on just looking at me. She thought I was dumb (even though my average is high and I get all A's, also I got into the post secondary institution of my choice) She thought I was going to be like every other 'popular' girl in my grade striving for the boys attention and dumbing down for them to seem cute. When I'm the total opposite and I really don't care what the so called 'popular' girls say about me. She also thought because I dressed nicely (not in brand names) but wearing things like dresses and skirts I was automatically a **** but I'm the furthest thing than that. She thought my hobbies included staring in the mirror taking pictures of myself, going on facebook the whole day; commenting on people pictures and going to parties and getting wasted. Where as I like taking shots of modern architecture, I don't even have a account on Facebook and my definition of fun does not include hooking up with random guys and forgetting about it the next day. Anyways sorry about my rant but my question to you is have people stereotyped you the wrong or even the right way based on your appearance.

- Since i wear boots and jeans, people call me a hick but im really not. i live on only like 5 acres of land. I hate stereotypes.
- Yep, for being a woman all the time.
- Sure I've been stereotyped. One was actually on my sexual orientation, which I thought was ridiculous. I was out with my best friend and we were downtown waiting for a train to come, and we heard some girls talking about me. Someone said, "She looks like a lesbian", I turned around and they were all looking at me. I just nodded over at them. My friend and I laughed. I was wearing a green plaid shirt, black skinnies, and flats. I have never tried or even thought about judging someone on sexual orientation. I dress everyday according to my mood. To me that was just casual wear. Another time, back when I was high school, I was shopping for prom shoes and I had walked into Arnold Churgins, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, my hair up and flats once again. I must have been wandering around 10 minutes, waiting for someone to attend to me. Then two girls walk in wearing their sweats and volleyball gear, they settle around one area of the store and were immediately attended to. They were white and I am latina. I only assumed that I had been judged by race. I went to the entrance of the store turned around and said, "Thank you so much for your great customer service" and left. I spent my money on shoes that I still wear at a place were I was pleasantly surprised me with respect. I have worked on myself to not judge others, their is absolutely no point in doing so. When people judge others I believe it's insecurities themselves have on groups they stereotype.
- I used to be homeless. What do you think? Try being homeless, minority AND drug and booze free living in a city/town of mostly overpriveleged White American upper middle class people. You'll get stereotyped in every way possibly humanly imaginable. An 18 wheeler couldn't hold all the stereotypes you'll be drowning in. My source? My life experiences. Adios gringo(a)s! I'm positive I'm the only Black or Latino involved in this question. White Americans need to be incinerated(except poor ones). And unlike everyone else, I've actually EARNED my right to my opinion. I served this moralisitically filthy country honorably for 4 years, U.S. Army. You just serve your own greed and arrogance.
